I have heard that every one of us has a special music running deep inside our soul and whatever music we love in our lives has something in common with it. I always translate English lyrics into Japanese, wondering what my music sounds like.
The tune sounds rather exotic, say somehow oriental to me. Maybe it's the sound of cymbals, clashing behind the melody. The lyrics lack specific descriptions. The tense of lines varies. Some are written in present tense and others are in past. The story behind it, however, is pretty coherent.
The protagonist and the second person had a terrible car accident on a rainy (or cloudy) afternoon. Probably the second person did it on purpose to kill herself. Being powerless to save her in the car crash, the protagonist felt guilty, regretting he should have done something to change her mind. It's a very sad song but still beautiful. Tear (The Smashing Pumpkins)
The lights came on fast
Lost in motorcrash
Gone in a flash unreal
But you knew all along
You laugh the light
I sing the songs
To watch you numb
I saw you there
You were on your way
You held the rain
And for the first time
Heaven seemed insane
Cause heaven is to blame
For taking you away
Do you know the way that I can?
Do you know the way that I can't lose?
Do you know the things that I can?
Do you know the things that I can do?
Where is your heart? where is your heart gone to?
Tear me apart
Tear me apart from you
You laugh the light I cry the wound
In gray afternoons
I saw you there
You were on your way
You held the rain
And for the first time
Heaven seemed insane
Cause heaven is to blame
For taking you away
The lights came to pass
Dead opera motorcrash
Gone in a flash unreal
In nitrous overcast
Do you know the way that I can?
Do you know the way that I can't choose?
Do you know the things that I can?
Do you know the things that I can't lose?
Tear me apart
Tear me apart from you
Where is your heart?
Where has your heart run to?
According to Songfacts.com, as for the song, Chester Bennington explained MTV "When Mike was talking about the lyrics, at one point he had said,
'You know, it's kind of like finding yourself as this broken part of this big machines, and feeling like you're not part of that, or trying to find your place in the bigger scheme of things.' And that can mean a soldier coming home from war, and trying to fint bakc into society, or aperson getting out of prison, or whatever."
Based on the interpretation that the protagonist in the lyrics is a soldier coming home from war, I translated the lyrics into Japanese here. I know it's an amazing and beautiful song in itself but I add significant amount of words to my translation to help you appreciate the lyrics more.. Hope it works. . Castle Of Glass (Linkin Park)
Take me down to the river bend
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again
Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black where the sirens sing
Warm me up in a nova's glow
And drop me down to the dream below
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
Bring me home in a blinding dream,
Through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
And show me how to be whole again
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
For you to see
Days are getting shorter and nights are getting longer these days. In the early morning, a clear and crisp wind streams into my room through a large window and gives me goose bumps sometimes. The blue of the sky gets deeper and soon the green leaves will fade. The end of summer.
I'm really vulnerable to the hot and humid summer here in Japan. I'm sure I was a polar bear or something like that in my previous life. Therefore "the end of summer" sounds evangelical to me but not to many people who greatly enjoyed this summer. So here's a song for you, it's still August, though. . Wake Me Up When September Ends (Green Day)
(Shorter Version)
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends
like my father's come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends
summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends
ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when September ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends
like my father's come to pass
twenty years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends
wake me up when September ends
wake me up when September ends
As I mentioned in a recent post, I was greatly puzzled when I watched this video on YouTube. Such a romantic short-film like video was anything but what I had expected. Actually, I expected less romantic one, like "Read All About It" or "Monster,"
I don't know for sure what makes me so uncomfortable but I guess it gives me some feeling of peeking at someone's, let's say my friend's life. Never Be A Right Time (Professor Green)
[Verse 1]
This is stressing me
It's really beginning to get to me
You've always been the best to me
And I've never given you any less of me
You've never been in a negative energy
I'm stressing, you tell me never to let it get to me
There's never been another next to me, that means what you meant to me
I said meant, but that's mean, I meant mean to me not meant to me!
but I don't know if its meant to be
I wanna tell you but nothings coming out when I speak
I can't find the words to say, its like the words evade me
I'm struggling to find a way to word it, and I'm supposed to be a wordsmith
It's just hard to find the words to say, hard to find the words to say..
[Chorus]
There'll never be a right time,
The time will never be right.
There'll never be a right time
For me to tell you
It's over
[Verse 2]
I was selling white, you were telling me i could do better
I told you if I was you I'd leave but you never,
Forever had faith in me even when i never did
I said I'd never let her slip like her ex-fella did
Been tryin to disguise it and dress it up,
I wanna tell her but i cant bear to see her welling up
I've got to find the strength to let her know, I've got to find the strength to let her go
But if I let her go I'll never know if things will get better with her,
See this could be a hiccup and not the end of the road
I'd be better to never get involved, she deserves better
than a fella with a fear of being alone
Struggling to find a way to word it, and I'm supposed to be a wordsmith
It's just hard to find the words to say, it's hard to find the words to say..
[Chorus]
There'll never be a right time,
The time will never be right.
There'll never be a right time
For me to tell you
Its over
[Bridge]
I cant help the way I feel, I don't want us to end
But I cant help the way I feel, I really can't pretend
I cant help the way I feel, but I don't want us to end
'Cause it will never be enough for us to just be friends
[Verse 3]
Nah, it'll never be enough
'Cause I think we both know what it means for us
I see the look on your face and I hate it
But I finally pluck up enough courage to say it
That's when she spins me around and tells me I ain't leaving
To tell her I take it back to tell her that I don't mean it
To look her dead in the eye and tell her I dont feel it
But I don't feel it..
[Chorus]
There'll never be a right time,
The time will never be right.
There'll never be a right time
For me to tell you
Its over
Now I know how he felt when Arturo Gatti challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2005. None of his punches landed on Mayweather. The lyrics of the song contain lines like, "Girl, I know you really love me," and "It's unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you."
As I said before, translating such a romantic, I'd say sometimes "too" romantic lyrics into Japanese is not an easy job. This time, the toughest part is the spoken part at the end of the lyrics.
Gatti was beaten up pretty much by him and lost his title. This time can I call it a draw? End Of The Road (Boyz II Men)
[Verse:]
We belong together
And you that I'm right
Why do you play with my heart,
Why do you play with my mind?
Said we'd be forever
Said it'd never die
How could you love me and leave me
And never say goodbye?
When I can't sleep at night without holding you tight
Girl, each time I try I just break down and cry
Pain in my head oh I'd rather be dead
Spinnin' around and around
[Chorus:]
Although we've come to the End Of The Road
Still I can't let you go
It's unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you
Come to the End of the Road
Still I can't let you go
It's unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you
Girl, I know you really love me,
You just don't realize
You've never been there before
It's only your first time
Maybe I'll forgive you, hmm
Maybe you'll try
We should be happy together
Forever, you and I
Can you love me again like you loved me before
This time I want you to love me much more
This time instead just come to my bed
And baby just don't let me, don't let me down
[Chorus]
[Spoken:]
Girl I'm here for you
All those times of night when you just hurt me
And just run out with that other fella
Baby I knew about it, I just didn't care
You just don't understand how much I love you do you?
I'm here for you
I'm not out to go out and cheat on you all night
Just like you did baby but that's all right
Hey, I love you anyway
And I'm still gonna be here for you 'till my dying day baby
Right now, I'm just in so much pain baby
'Cause you just won't come back to me
Will you? Just come back to me
(Lonely)
Yes baby my heart is lonely
(Lonely)
My heart hurts baby
(Lonely)
Yes I feel pain too
Baby please
This time instead just come to my bed
And baby just don't let me go
Hands Held High(Burn It Downもこのタイプかもしれません)のような政治的な色彩を帯びたものや,What I've DoneやBurning In The Skiesなどの環境問題を意識したものがありますが,歌詞を読む限りは,前者の方が当てはまりそうですね。.
As the protagonist in the lyrics seems to be a guy, he's bitching hard. He says he won't forget how he got that far. I'd love to believe what he says but I know from my own experience that he WILL forget and do it all over again. Maybe not with this girl but with another one. I bet.
Some of Linkin Park's songs are very political, like Hands Held High (and could be Burn It Down) and others are environment-conscious such as What I've Done and Burning In The Skies. Examining the lyrics, the former seems to be more suitable. Lost In The Echo (Linkin Park)
You were that foundation
Never gonna be another one, no
I followed, so taken
So conditioned I could never let go
Then sorrow, then sickness
then the shock when you flip it on me
So hollow, so vicious
So afraid I couldn't let myself see
That I could never be held
Back or up, no, I hold myself
Check the rep, yep, you know mine well
Forget the rest, let them know my hell
There and back yet my soul ain't sell
Kept respect up the best, they fell
Let the rest be the tale they tell
That I was there saying
in these promises broken deep below
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you
Go
Test my will
Test my heart
Let me tell you how the odds gonna stack up
Ya'll go hard
I go smart
How's that working out for y'all in the back huh?
I've seen that frustration
Been crossed and lost, and told no
And I've come back, unshaken
Let down and lived and let go
So you can let it be known
I don't hold back
I hold my own
I can't be mapped
I can't be cloned
I can't C-flat
It ain't my tone
I can't fall back I came too far
Hold myself up and love my scars
Let the bells ring wherever they are
'Cause I was there saying
No, you can tell'em all now
I don't back up
I don't back down
I don't fold up and I don't bow
I don't roll over
Don't know how
I don't care where they enemies are
Can't be stopped, all I know is go hard
Won't forget how I got this far
For every time I'm saying
In these promises broken deep below**
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you
Go
The day I got a comment requesting this song was the day I posted The Fray's You Found Me, another track off from their sophomore and the very same album this song's in. It was just few hours before I published You Found Me that the request was done. Yes, I know it's just a coincidence but I feel like putting adjective Amazing before it. Maybe it's not only me who was very surprised. So your wish is granted. I hope you like it. Syndicate (The Fray)
Halfway around the world
Lies the one thing that you want
Buried in the ground, hundreds of miles down
First thing that arises in your mind while you awake
Is bending you til you break
Let me hold you now
Baby close your eyes
Don't open til the morning light
Baby don't forget
You haven't lost it all yet
Don't know what your made of
Til the one thing that you want
is coming with the dawn and suddenly changes
Monday, syndicate me, it's everyone's the same
But all we've lost to the flame
Listen to me now
Baby close your eyes
Don't open til the morning light
Don't ever forget
We haven't lost it all yet
All we know for sure
Is all that we are fighting for
Baby don't forget
We haven't lost it all yet
Someday when this is over
We may still have no answer
For now it's when I hold ya
We are closer, we are closer
We are closer, we are closer
Baby close your eyes
Don't open til the morning light
Don't ever forget
We haven't lost it all yet
And all we know for sure
Is all that we are fighting for
Baby don't forget
We haven't lost it all yet
We are closer
We are closer
(We haven't lost it all yet)
Now we are closer
(We haven't lost it all yet)
We are closer
I'm not a big fan of Country music but somehow this song caught my attention. I don't know why for sure but maybe it's the lines "Downtown is where I used to wander, Old enough to get here but too young to get inside. So I would stand out on the sidewalk, Listen to the music playin' every Friday night." that hooked me up. They remind me of my childhood.
I'm not saying I was very interested in music when I was a kid. I was rather not. It's the feeling I had then that something great or amazing is waiting for me that made me hooked.
I still remember the faith, hope and anxiety I felt in those days. I'm sure they drove me forward through my tough times. Even If It Breaks Your Heart (Eli Young Band)
Way back on the radio dial,
The fire got lit inside a bright-eyed child.
Every note just wrapped around his soul,
From steel guitars to Memphis, all the way to rock and roll.
Ohhh, I can hear 'em playin'.
I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar.
Ohhh, I can hear 'em singin',
"Keep on dreamin', even if it breaks your heart."
Downtown is where I used to wander.
Old enough to get there but too young to get inside.
So I would stand out on the sidewalk,
Listen to the music playin' every Friday night.
Ohhh, I can hear 'em playin'.
I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar.
Ohhh, I can hear 'em singin',
"Keep on dreamin', even if it breaks your heart."
Some dreams stay with you forever,
Drag you around but bring you back to where you were.
Some dreams keep on gettin' better,
Gotta keep believin' if you wanna know for sure.
Ohhh, I can hear 'em playin'.
I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar.
Ohhh, I can hear 'em singin',
"Keep on dreamin', even if it breaks your heart."

As the protagonist in the lyrics warns the second person that he could be very dangerous and violent. He also tells her it's him who controls the game, saying "You want to stay but you know very well I want you gone.".
Hadn't known Adam Levine wrote the song, I would have believed what the protagonist says. His previous relationships and their consequences, however, make me think otherwise. It seems to me that he's just making a bluff and not very successful in convincing her. Rather he seems to try to convince himself of their breakup instead by saying so.
In my opinion, a truly violent person will never admit himself as such but rather deny it. Also he says he once tried to save their relationship and she will miss it after he dumps her. Why does he bother to say that to her? If he's really done with her, he would have left her without saying anything.. Harder To Breathe (Maroon 5)
How dare you say that my behavior is unacceptable
So condescending unnecessarily critical
I have the tendency of getting very physical
So watch your step cause if I do you'll need a miracle
You drain me dry and make me wonder why I'm even here
The Double Vision I was seeing is finally clear
You want to stay but you know very well I want you gone
Not fit to fuckin' tread the ground that I am walking on
But when it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You'll understand what I mean when I say
There's no way we're gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
What you are doing is screwing things up inside my head
You should know better you never listened to a word I said
Clutching your pillow and writhing in a naked sweat
Hoping somebody someday will do you like I did
But when it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You'll understand what I mean when I say
There's no way we're gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Does it kill
Does it burn
Is it painful to learn
That it's me that has all the control
Does it thrill
Does it sting
When you feel what I bring
And you wish that you had me to hold
But when it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You'll understand what I mean when I say
There's no way we're gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
このe.g.
His "Stay Awake" music video brought me to this song. What caught my attention was his stage name, Example. Elliot John Gleave is his real name, he calls himself as such for his initials are E and G. (Latin : exempli gratia, meaning "for example").
Anyway, in the lyrics, the protagonist (maybe Example himself) says, "And I just hate the silence, nothing worse than silence." I'm sure he's from UK. If he hates the silence that much, he definitely was from Kansai area in his previous life. Microphone (Example)
Take everything I say with a pinch of salt,
Coming out with rubbish at intervals,
Don't take what I say as an insult,
Exactly what I did to the kids at school,
I guess that probably means that I'm into you,
So I've put it down in words just to speak the truth,
And girl I know that's hardly original
Hoping this should (all) make sense to you,
These words, you know they give me guidance
And I just hate the silence, nothing worse than silence,
So let me bring the sirens, we can fight the giants,
We can battle tyrants all day, we'll stay all night and pray
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
I don't need no microphone
Saying what I thought was a piece of cake,
On the evidence of things that I've seen today,
I keep on saying things I don't mean to say
On repeat on repeat on repeat today
And I don't really care what the people say
So you'll never see me looking for legal way,
Every now and then I just reach a stage
I just sing it out and then lead the way,
These words, you know they give me guidance
And I just hate the silence, nothing worse than silence,
So let me bring the sirens, we can fight the giants,
We can battle tyrants all day, we'll stay all night and pray
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
I don't need no microphone
I can make the whole world hear me
I can make the whole world hear me sing
[x2]
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
I don't need no microphone
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
I can make the whole world hear me
I can make the whole world hear me sing
[x2]
Throw your stones
We can hold our own
I don't need no microphone
." I heard my favorite James Morrison worked for a company providing car cleaning service before he became famous. Like him Noel Gallagher was a roadie for The Inspiral Carpets when he started writing this song. He also said in the documentary Live Forever that the song was about growing up in a lower class and about resisting the 'I want to kill myself attitude.' Considering these things I mentioned above, and that the cover of the CD single is John Lennon's childhood home, we can understand the message of the song without difficulty. Some say the second person (you) in the song represents three people. 1) Noel Gallagher's mother, 2) his audience (=us), 3) his hero (=John Lennon). I also read that he wrote this song in response to Kurt Cobain recording a song called, 'I Hate Myself and I want to die'. If that's true, this song could be a prequel to his "Wonderwall." Live Forever (Oasis)
Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly
Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone
Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breath
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone
Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
We're gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Live forever
Forever
This song is awesome. It's rue the song is not uplifting nor romantic and rather depressing. Still it really is. I don't drink and will never know what an alcoholic feels like but maybe this gives me a little glimpse into being one.
As the song deals with alcoholic, it's not the only addiction we have in this world. Drugs, sex, shopping and sugar, Why are we addicted to something? I think it's because they give you somewhat secured feeling, in other words, being protected or safe.
I don't think I will be alcoholic because being drunk gives me only nausea and therefore getting drunk means nothing but feel sick. That's not a very strong incentive, I guess.
However, I could be overeating (and obese) if I get stressed too much. I know from my experience that sugar does give me comfort when I feel a bit low.. Sober (Pink)
I don't wanna be the girl who laughs the loudest
Or the girl who never wants to be alone
I don't wanna be that call at 4 o'clock in the morning
'Cos I'm the only one you know in the world that won't be home
Ah the sun is blinding
I stayed up again
Oh, I am finding
That's not the way I want my story to end
I'm safe
Up high
Nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain
Inside
You're my protection
How do I feel this good sober?
I don't wanna be the girl who has to fill the silence
The quiet scares me 'cause it screams the truth
Please don't tell me that we had that conversation
I won't remember, save your breath, 'cos what's the use?
Ah, the night is calling?
And it whispers to me softly come and play
Ah, I am falling
And If I let myself go I'm the only one to blame
I'm safe
Up high
Nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain
Inside
You're like perfection
How do I feel this good sober?
I'm coming down, coming down, coming down
Spinning 'round, spinning 'round, spinning 'round
Looking for myself - SOBER [x2]
When it's good, then it's good, it's so good till it goes bad
Till you're trying to find the you that you once had
I have heard myself cry, never again
Broken down in agony just tryna find a friend
Oh Oh
I'm safe
Up high
Nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain
Inside
You're like perfection
How do I feel this good sober
Oh Oh
I'm safe
Up High
Nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain
Inside
You're like perfection
How do I feel this good sober?
Will I ever feel this good sober?
Tell me, No no no no no pain
How do i feel this good sober?
Technically speaking, this is not Jason Mraz's song. It's originally written by Luc Reynaud of Luc and The Lovingtons who was assisting and covered by Jason Mraz. This is off from his latest album "Love Is a Four Letter Word." He's never recorded a cover version for his album before.
The message is quite simple. "Music can uplift your spirit. Listening to it, feel and enjoy your life."I think it's nice to listen to this relaxing tune over beer or wine, (or soft drinks in case you're a minor) if you like, during your summer holidays. The Freedom Song (Jason Mraz)
I picture something is beautiful
It's full of life and it is all blue
I've seen the sunset on the beach, yeah
It makes me feel calm, when I'm calm
I feel good
When I feel good I sing
And the joy it brings makes me feel good
And when I feel good I sing
And the joy it brings
[Chorus:]
Come on along, I know you really want to feel our song
We've got some life to bring
We've got some joy in this thing
Come on along, I know you really want to feel our song
We've got some life to bring
We've got some joy in this thing
I see birds fly across the sky, yeah
And everyone's heart flies together
Food is frying and people smiling
Like there is no other way...
To feel good (good)
and when I feel good I sing (sing)
And the joy it brings makes me feel good (good)
And when I feel good I sing (sing)
And the joy it brings
[Chorus:]
Come on along, I know you really want to feel our song
We've got some life to bring
We've got some joy in this thing
Come on along, I know you really want to feel our song
We've got some life to bring
We've got some joy in this thing
[Interlude]
I feel good
And when I feel good I sing
And the joy it brings makes me feel good
And when I feel good I sing
And the joy it brings
It brings me freedom (freedom), woah,
got to get yourself to that freedom
It's freedom
Singing freedom (freedom) woah,
you deserve your freedom
It's a smile you can keep in your heart
Freedom, woah,
Everybody got to know freedom
Love to feel in it beauty
Freedom, woah,
got to get to someone,
Got to get to someone,
Got to get to someone,
Got to get to someone freedom
Freedom, woah,
everybody know freedom
It's freedom, come on, try to sing
Freedom, woah, everybody got to know freedom
Break it down
Get you [x7] that freedom
[Chorus:]
Come on along, I know you really want to feel our song
We've got some life to bring
We've got some joy in this thing
What separates science from religion/faith? I think it's a doubt. The former allows it and the latter doesn't. In other words, if you take everything for granted blindly, and doubt nothing, it's anything but science and should be called religion or faith even if it contains tons of numbers, figures and formulas.
Some people believe in the Bible and the Creation. It's very easy to laugh at them saying they don't know anything. I myself believe in the evolution but still I don't think I understand the whole idea of it. I believe in the theory not because I can prove it right but because they should be right, supported by many scientists. In this case, what technically separates me from those who believe in the Bible? Don't Worry, We'll Be Watching You (Gotye)
Hey
What's your name?
Don't worry
Don't be afraid
We won't hurt you
Hey
Lost your way?
Don't worry
Just do as we say
And we won't hurt you
It's hard
The world can lead you so astray
It gets harder
It's hard just to keep the faith
Do you need a reminder
Of the love that we gave you?
Don't worry
You're walking away
But we'll always be watching you
(We'll always be watching you)
(We'll always be watching you)
Being an agnostic and living in polytheistic Japan, seeing monotheistic God, let's say Jesus, is not my everyday event. Actually, I've never met him. So it's a bit surprising to find such a large number of people utterly believe in him and his existence there.
In the lyrics, a line "Just a little late" appears. It could be taken both ways. a) a little too late hence the protagonist died, b) a little late but not too late and he's still alive. Judging from the comment below, we can safely assume that the latter fits better.
According to Songfacts.com., the songwriter, Issac Slade of the band posted the following comment on their website along with the video :
"It's about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you're let down, sometimes you're the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I'm still right in the thick of it. There's some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest."
You Found Me (The Fray)
(lyric video)
[Verse 1]
I found God
On the corner of First and Amistad
Where the west
Was all but won
All alone
Smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?"
He said, "Ask anything".
[Verse 2]
Where were you
When everything was falling apart?
All my days
Were spent by the telephone
That never rang
And all I needed was a call
That never came
To the corner of First and Amistad
[Chorus 1]
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me
[Verse 3]
In the end
Everyone ends up alone
Losing her
The only one who's ever known
Who I am
Who I'm not, who I wanna be
No way to know
How long she will be next to me
[Chorus 2]
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me
[Bridge]
Early morning
The city breaks
I've been callin'
For years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
Ya never send me no letters
You got some kinda nerve
Taking all I want
[Chorus 3 and outro]
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Where were you? Where were you?
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me
Why'd you have to wait?
To find me, to find me
Except for requests from followers, I usually try to translate a song which basically falls into at least one of these categories : a) very new, b) not very popular but (I think) it should be known to Japanese people, c) too ambiguous or perplexing therefore very few people have tried to translate it. I think such a song is worth translating into Japanese.
This song, however, falls into none of them. I know it's not very new and is very popular at the same time. I'm sure many people have already translated it into Japanese. As you know, however, every rule has an exception. It falls into another category : A song I love.
On the music video of this song, I found a very witty comment receiving many thumbs up, saying "buy a smaller bed might solve the problem". True. California King Bed (Rihanna)
Chest to chest
Nose to nose
Palm to palm
We were always just that close
Wrist to wrist
Toe to toe
Lips that felt just like the inside of a rose
So, how come when I reach out my finger
It feels like more than distance between us
In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king
Eye to eye
Cheek to cheek
Side by side
You were sleeping next to me
Arm in arm
Dusk to dawn
With the curtains drawn
And a little last night on these sheets
So, how come when I reach out my fingers
It seems like more than distance between us
In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king
Just when I felt like giving up on us
You turned around and gave me one last touch
That made everything feel better
And even then my eyes got wetter
So confused wanna ask you if you love me
But I don't wanna seem so weak
Maybe I've been California dreaming
Yeah yeah yeah
In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king
My California king
In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king
I've been California, California King, California dreamingと登場します。
The key phrase of the lyrics is "You get no love." It's a simple phrase, consists of only four words and doesn't look very hard to translate. Yes, it does. The title is "No Love" but there's nothing to do with a relationship. It basically is a song about a competition or struggle in the rap/hip-hop world. Watching the music video, depicting a bully at school, however, you could say it's about striking back or revenge. It could be.
Most Japanese don't use the word "love (=ai)" very often in conversation. As far as I know the only Japanese who uses the word daily is the guy who runs a small cleaner in Tokyo, the first child of six siblings.
Anyway, I was overwhelmed by Eminem's rap. He uses his words like musical notes. To me he seems to be a musical instrument called "Eminem" himself. My favorite part is the lines around 3:13, starting with "Snatch the mic." His fierce rapping lasts more than 30 seconds. It gives me shivers. No Love (Eminem ft. Lil' Wayne)
[Intro]
[Verse 1: Lil Wayne]
Throw dirt on me and grow a wildflower
But it's "fuck the world", get a child out her
Yeah, my life a bitch, but you know nothing bout her
Been to hell and back, I can show you vouchers
I'm rolling Sweets, I'm smoking sour
Married to the game but she broke her vows
That's why my bars are full of broken bottles
And my night stands are full of open Bibles
I think about more than I forget
But I don't go around fire expecting not to sweat
And these niggas know I lay them down, make your bed
Bitches try to kick me while I'm down: I'll break your leg
Money outweighing problems on the triple beam
I'm sticking to the script, you niggas skipping scenes
Be good or be good at it
Fucking right I've got my gun, semi-Cartermatic
Yeah, put a dick in their mouth, so I guess it's "fuck what they say"
I'm high as a bitch: up, up and away
Man, I come down in a couple of days
OK, you want me up in the cage, then I'll come out in beast mode
I got this world stuck in the safe, combination is the G code
It's Weezy motherfucker, blood gang and I'm in bleed mode
All about my dough but I don't even check the peephole
So you can keep knocking but won't knock me down
No love lost, no love found
[Hook: Eminem & Lil Wayne]
It's a little too late to say that you're sorry now
You kicked me when I was down
But what you say just (don't hurt me, don't hurt me no more)
That's right bitch: and I don't need you, don't want to see you
Bitch you get (no love)
You show me nothing but hate
You ran me into the ground
But what comes around goes around
I don't need you (don't hurt me)
You (don't hurt me no more)
That's right, and I don't need you, don't want to see you
You get (no love)
Bitch you get (no love)
And I don't need you
Get em
[Verse 2: Eminem]
I'm alive again
More alive than I have been in my whole entire life
I can see these people's ears perk up as I begin
To spaz with the pen, I'm a little bit sicker than most
Shit's finna get thick again
They say the competition is stiff
But I get a hard dick from this shit, now stick it in
I ain't never giving in again
Caution to the wind, complete freedom
Look at these rappers, how I treat them
So why the fuck would I join them when I beat them?
They call me a freak because
I like to spit on these pussies 'fore I eat them
Man get these whack cocksuckers off stage
Where the fuck is Kanye when you need him?
Snatch the mic from him, bitch I'mma let you finish in a minute
Yeah the rap is tight
But I'm bout to spit the greatest verse of all time
So you might want to go back to the lab tonight and um
Scribble out them rhymes you were going to spit
And start over from scratch and write new ones
But I'm afraid that it ain't gonna make no difference
When I rip this stage and tear it in half tonight
It's an adrenaline rush to feel the bass thump
In the place all the way to the parking lot, fellow
Set fire to the mic and ignite the crowd
You can see the sparks from hot metal
Cold-hearted from the day I Bogarted the game
My soul started to rot, fellow
When I'm not even in my harshest
You can still get roasted because Marsh is not mellow
Til I'm toppling from the top I'm not going to stop
I'm standing on my Monopoly board
That means I'm on top of my game and it don't stop
Til my hip don't hop anymore
When you so good that you can't say it
Because it ain't even cool for you to sound cocky anymore
People just get sick cause you spit
These fools can't drool or dribble a drop anymore
And you can never break my stride
You'll never slow the momentum at any moment
I'm 'bout to blow, you'll never take my pride
Killing the flow, slow venom and the opponent
Is getting no mercy, mark my words
Ain't letting up, relentless
I smell blood, I don't give a fuck: keep giving them hell
Where was you when I fell and needed help up?
You get no love
