Everybody Talks ネオン・ツリーズ(Neon Trees)

ミュージック・ヴィデオを見てMichael JackssonのThrillerを思い出しました。最初は普通のラヴソングだと思いました。まあ実際そうだったわけですが，この曲が他とは違う点は，主人公の男性が片思い中の相手の女性との関係を薬物との関係にたとえているところ。薬物を連想させる「addiction」「prescription」「itching」「overdose」といった単語が使われています。歌詞の内容はシンプルで，主人公は相手が気になってしかたがないのに，相手の方は彼にさほど興味がないため，周囲の噂になってしまい，彼が余計に焦燥感を募らせるという内容です。
The music video reminds me of that of Thriller by Michael Jackson.  At first, I thought it was one of mainstream love songs.  Actually, it is but what makes it different is that the protagonist (a guy) compares his potential relationship with the second person (a girl) to a drug.  Some drug related words including addiction, prescription, itching and overdose are used.  The song is quite simple.  He's into her very much but she's not interested that much.  Everybody talks too much about it and that irritates him.
