年をとればとるほど保守的になるとか。周囲を見る限りどうもそれは正しいようですが，その原因は「やり直し」の可能性にあるのではないでしょうか？若い頃にはたとえ失敗してもまたやり直すことができます。守るべきものもあまりなく，代わりに時間だけはたっぷりあるからです。
People say when the older you get, the more conservative you become.  Looking around, they seem right.  I think the reason lies in the feasibility of a retry.  When you're young, you can try it again even if you have failed once.  You don't have much to lose and plenty time instead.

（余談）

今20前後の自分を思い返すとそのバカさ加減に冷や汗が出る思いで，よくあれで生きてこられたと不思議になるほどですが，当時はそれがまったく気にならなかったのですから，若さというのは色んな意味で素晴らしいと言わざるを得ません。
