主人公は自分が死んだらどうなるのかを知りたがっていますが，ジョーンズ助祭はそれに答えられるのでしょうか？無論彼ならその疑問になんらかの答えを出せるのでしょうがそれが実体験からきたものでないことだけは明らかです。
The narrator wants to know what will come to them when they die.   Does Deacon Jones know the answer?  He can give some answer to the question, of course but it never reflects his own experience.
