Wikipediaはメリスマを「連続していくつかの音符の間を移動しながら，文字の一音節を歌う歌い方」と定義していますが，巷ではその技法をポップとR&Bの世界のファンに広めたのがこのMariah Careyだと言われています。
Wikipedia defines melisma as "the singing of a single syllable of text while moving between several different notes in succession." People say that Mariah Carey is the one who made it quite popular among pop and R&B fans.
