ついにミダス王が帰って来ました。コーラスを聞いた瞬間，完全に心を掴まれました。取り立てて新しいところがあるわけではなくどちらかといえば懐かしい感じの曲ですが，聞いていて心地よいことは確かです。

とはいうものの，この両者は互いに相容れない概念ではありません。確かに「世の中は金次第」というのは，かなりの程度まで真実ですが，いかに金があろうと「命の時間（＝寿命）」は買えません。かのSteve Jobsでさえ病には勝てなかったではありませんか。その一方で，生活に余裕がないほど金がないことが不幸の大きな原因であることも否定できません。

したがって，人類の幸福の総量を上げたいと思うなら，最低限のレベルを引き上げ，上限を引き下げるのが最も効果的なやり方なのかもしれません。

数年前に，半分ギャグで「ミダス王」と呼び始めた私ですが，まさか将来本当にこんな曲が発表されるとは思ってもいませんでした。

ご存知かもしれませんが，ミダス王のBruno Marsという名前は芸名であり，本名はPeter Gene Hernandezという名前ですが，プロレスラーに似ているという理由でミダス王にこのBrunoというあだ名を付けたのは王のお父上なんだとか。つまり王のお父上のPeter Hernandez（そうです，王と同じ名前です）が実際に生物学的にも社会学的にもミダス王（Bruno Mars）の「生みの親」です。今日は父の日でしたね。

（余談）

大変感動的な歌詞ですが，よくある「実話に基づいています」という映画と同様，すべてが真実というわけではなく，ある程度はフィクションであるようです。というのも，歌詞の中では主人公の父親は亡くなったことになっていますが，実際には（少なくとも2012年の時点では）ミダス王のお父上はお元気のようで，こちらのインタヴューに答えていらっしゃるからです。

最初にこの曲を耳にした時，気付くとテーブルの端を叩いてリズムを取っていました。その後も耳について離れず，その日一日頭のなかでずっとこの曲がかかりっぱなし。歩く時，PCのキーを打つ時，そして料理する時でさえ，この曲に合わせてしている状態でした。したがって下のミュージック・ヴィデオをご覧になる場合には自己責任でお願いいたします。

ヴィデオの中で「王」としてはいかがなものか的な服装で楽しそうに踊っておられる王のお姿を拝見していると（似合わないことは証明済みなのに）妙にアフロのヅラを被り，極彩色の派手なシャツを着たくなってしまいますが，仮にそれらを手に入れたとしても，一体どこにそれを着て行くのかという現実問題に直面することは間違いありません。ハロウィンや忘年会はまだかなり先ですし。

ポップだけでなくレゲエも難なくこなすあたり，やはりミダス王は違います。この曲，主人公が酔っぱらってろれつが回らなくなった箇所が笑えるのですが，それに勝るとも劣らず個人的にグッと来たのが「なにしろ手持ちが68セントで，これじゃ家賃も払えやしない」という箇所でした。とにかくこの「68セント」という数字が無駄に具体的で，それだけに大変リアリティを感じさせます。

Money Makes Her Smile ブルーノ・マーズ (Bruno Mars)

ミダス王が現在来日中とか。王の初舞台は4歳の時の大阪だと聞いているので，王の行幸（ツアーなので巡行ですね）を記念して１曲取り上げます。この曲を聴くと，1987年にリリースされたかのMJのBadを思い出すのですが，おそらくフック（サビ）の部分の「Money money money make her smile」の部分のせいでしょう。歌詞に登場する女性はまさに「金目当ての女（gold digger）」であり，当人もその点をしっかり自覚しているようです。彼女とミダス王のGrenadeに登場する女性は双子で，一方の名前がNatalieかもしれません。    

I heard he's now in Japan.  With his returning to Osaka where he was on stage for the first time at the age of four, I'm going post one of his songs.  The song reminds me MJ's 'Bad' released in 1987.  Probably the hook "Money money money make her smile" is the reason.  The girl in the lyrics seems to be a true gold digger and she knows who she really is.  She and the second person in the lyrics of  "Grenade" could be twins and one of their names be "Natalie".

確か4月10日来日だと聞いたような気がしたので急遽取り上げてみたのですが・・・・新学期になり，新緑も爽やかなこの時期にこの曲・・・大変申し訳ありません。

私はミダス王の曲の大半は次の４つのどれかに入ると思っています。つまり1) Just The Way You AreやTreasureといった甘いラヴ・ソング，2) When I Was Your Manなどの切ないラヴ・ソング，3) Locked Out Of HeavenやGorillaなどといったエロいラヴ・ソング，そして4)Grenadeやこの曲のような相手を責める曲です。
そもそもNatalieは一体誰なのか？インタヴューで「いつもこのNatalieが誰か聞かれる」とミダス王が答えているところを見ると，そう思うのは私だけではないようですが，ミダス王によれば自分の時計を盗んだ女性をモデルにこの曲を書いたそうです。
I think most songs written by Bruno Mars fall into one of these four categories: 1) sweet love songs like "Just The Way You Are" and "Treasure", 2) bitter love songs including "When I Was Your Man", 3) rather sexy love songs such as "Locked Out Of Heaven" and "Gorilla" and 4) songs lamenting at and blaming to the second person like "Grenade" and this.
So who's Natalie in the first place?  Bruno Mars himself admitted in an interview that everyone was asking him who this Natalie woman was.  Well I'm not the only one who has the same question.  He said a girl who stole his watch somehow inspired him to write the song.

* スネーク・アイズというのは，ギャンブルでは１のゾロ目のことですが，同時に蛇のように狡猾な目という意味もあるようです。またこの１のゾロ目，ギャンブルにおいては「悪い目」らしく「ツキのなさ」も表しているんだとか。

（余談）

この曲については，ミダス王自身が時計を盗まれた一件をベースに「話を盛って作った」と語っているのですが，ただ見方を変えれば，これは「アイドル（あるいはアーティスト）に入れあげたファン」の心理と考えられなくもありません。

そのアイドルのCDを買い，アイドルの出る番組をチェックし，全てのコンサートに出かけた。それが原因で職を失うことになったが，それでも構わず命がけで応援していたにもかかわらず，そのアイドルが自分のSNSアカウントでその行為を「迷惑」と言っていることを知った。あんなに尽くしてやったのに，しかもそうされて嬉しそうにしてたくせに。・・・・裏切ったな，このままじゃ済まさない。今に見てろよ。

・・・あり得ます。むしろ容易に想像できるだけに怖い。そして仮にそうだとすると，逆にミダス王の方がNatalieの立場になってしまいます。王，どうかくれぐれも身辺にはお気をつけて。あまり無茶はなさいませんよう。
