ところが，私たちの想像とは裏腹に，実は聖書ではその「果実」の種類は明らかにされていないのですが，それでもその言葉から我々が連想するのは「リンゴ」です。
そこで，題名を聞いた時は，この曲は聖書と関係のある曲だと思ったのですが，Not the apple of my eyeという表現の意味を辞書で引いて，やっと自分が間違っていたことに気付きました。実はこれは「お気に入りの人やもの」という意味で，恋人のことを指す言葉のようです。ご存じでしたか？
Like other English words, a word 'apple' is associated with many specific meanings, such as mobile phones, the universal law of gravitation by Sir Issac Newton and of course, 'the forbidden fruit' described in the bible.
Despite our common belief, the bible doesn't specify the type of fruit. The image of the fruit usually conjured up in our mind, however, is an apple.
So when I saw the title, I thought the song had something to do with the bible. It's not until I look up an expression, "Not the apple of my eye" in a dictionary when I realized I was wrong. The expression means someone's favorite person or thing; a boyfriend or a girlfriend. Did you know that?

とにかく内容が漠然とし過ぎていて，一体何の話なのかさっぱり掴めません。ブリッジのところを見る限り，どうやら破局ソングのようなのですが，ヒントと言えばそれくらい。
なにより困ったのが，主語がないこと。通常主語がなければ命令文なのですが，それでは意味の通らないところがかなりある上，メタファー満載ときています。なかでも第２連は，元の正しい英文歌詞がはっきりしないこともあり大変苦労しました。
それはともかく，第一連ですが，ひょっとしたらこれは「恋」を表現するメタファーではないでしょうか？

したがって現在では，聖書にいう「禁断の果実」とは「いちじく」であるとする説が有力なようです。
