誰かに助けて／救って／支えてもらいたいと思っている人間は山ほどいるのに，その助ける／救う／支える側の人間になりたい人があまりいないのは皮肉です。
It's funny a lot of us want a special person who can help/save/support us or "lift us off the ground" but not many of us want to be the person.

（余談）

そもそも人間関係は相互利益が基本なので，最初はいいとしてもずっと「助けて／救って／支えて」もらうばかりではいずれその関係は破綻します。

さらにこの問題を複雑にしているのが，そういった「フリーライダー（ただ乗り」が自身で相手に利益を与えていると信じているために，ともすると「以前はこうじゃなかったのに変わった」と相手を批判しがちな点でしょう。

主人公にはできるだけ自力で立ち上がることをお勧めしたいと思います。
