ところで，歌詞に登場する「ヘンな灰」は，一説によるとその前の「いっそのこと，核爆弾でも落としてくれよ，なあ頼むから！」という箇所に登場する原子爆弾による「死の灰」なのだとか。まあ確かに筋は通ります。
The word, 'Sunday' is usually associated with something fun and exciting but it's not in this song. The song depicts a dull and boring holidays which are spent at a seaside resort town. Wikipeda says, the song was inspired after the artist visited the Welsh sea-side resort of Borth.
As for 'the strange ash' appearing in the lyrics, one says it's nuclear fallout which is hinted in the preceding lines like "That they forgot to bomb, Come, come, come, nuclear bomb". Well, that makes sense.

この曲の歌詞を見て思ったのですが，旅行先というのは，何故ああもお土産が魅力的に見えるのでしょうか？おそらく一生使わないであろう「絵葉書」や「マグカップ」があの時ほど心に訴えてくることもなかったように思います。いわんや「木刀」をや。
何故全国津々浦々のお土産屋さんに必ずと言っていいほど「木刀」が置いてあるのか？しかも何の関連もないことなど百も承知であるにもかかわらず，見るとどうしようもなく買いたくなってしまうのは一体何故なんでしょうか・・・。不思議です。
