「神様ってのはダンサーなのよ (God is a dancer)」という主人公ですが，私に言わせれば「神はガン (God is a cancer)」だと思います。自分の中から生まれたものなのに気付かないうちに我々を乗っ取ってしまうからです。しかも最悪なことに我々を支配し操ることで言葉を通じて他人にも広がっていきます。
"God is a dancer" the narrator says.  I think God is a 'cancer'.  It grows within us and takes over us before we know it.  Worst of all, it controls and manipulates us to spread to others through our words.

* keep someone on his toes　・・・　（人を）用心させておく，油断させずにおく，気を張り詰めさせておく

（余談）

そもそも過去の歴史を紐解けば，人間の起こした戦争のかなりの部分が宗教絡みであることは明らかです。

現在においても紛争の多くが宗教の違いに端を発していることは珍しくなく，神の名のもとに「正義」や「真実」だと思っていることも別のパースペクティヴから見ればただの「思い込み」なのですが，残念ながらそれに気づいた時にはすでに手遅れで，事態が拡大し過ぎて最早手に負えなくなっている場合も少なくありません。

だとすればガンと同様にこまめに「検診（内省）」を受け，早期発見できるよう努めることが大切ですが，実際の定期検診と同様に，面倒なだけではなく時によって苦痛を感じることもあるためついつい先延ばしにしがちです。

ただ早期発見できればダメージは小さくて済みます。「神」あるいは「常識」といった思い込みに早く気づき，それを少しずつ払拭することで今よりもずっと楽になれるような気がします。
