（余談）

この曲の訳文では「father」を基本的に「親父」と訳していますが，「I know ～　my father again」の下りだけは，fatherを「パパ」と和訳しています。

これはそれ以外の箇所が現在の（大人になった）主人公の回想であるのに対して，この部分だけが，おそらく母親が泣くのを聞いて（子どもの）主人公が神に祈った内容であると思われるからです。

とはいうものの「神」も忙しいですからねえ。主人公の願いを聞き入れてくれる余裕があるかどうか・・・。

虐待を受けた子どもは，そうでない子どもに比べ，自身が親になった時に自分の子どもを虐待してしまうことが比較的多いという話をどこかで聞いたことがあります。人間の人格形成において，生育環境が与える影響の大きさを考えれば，たとえ相手が家族であっても「己の欲せざる所、人に施す勿かれ」という人間関係を築く上での鉄則は，決して忘れてはならないことでしょう。

Calling All Angels トレイン (Train)

この曲の歌詞のなかで最もわかりにくいのは，私に言わせれば，「サッカーの選手ときたら，クイーンにキスしてて，夢を持つっていうことが，一体どういうことなのか，わからなくなっている (And football teams are kissing Queens)」の箇所でしょう。ここを「（アメリカン）フットボールの選手がプロム・クイーンを妊娠させた」と取る人もいるようですが，曲を書いたPat Monahanの説明は違っています。「ニュースにイギリスの有名サッカー選手たちが登場していた」ことがキッカケだったと言っているからです。ということは，この「フットボール」はアメリカン・フットボールではなく，サッカーのことでしょう。
The most puzzling line of this song is, in my opinion, "And football teams are kissing Queens".  Some people take this part as a football player gets the prom queen pregnant.  Pat Monahan who wrote the song explained otherwise, saying he was inspired by "watching the news and I saw that these great soccer players in the U.K."  So 'football' probably means soccer not American football

（余談）

リードでも述べた箇所に続く「この世の中じゃ，求めてるものがあったって，それが自分のものになったら，もうどうでもいいんだよ (In a world that what we want is only what we want until it's ours)」という一節ですが，ここは「成功者は保守になる」ということではないでしょうか？

まだ若く経済的にも豊かでなかった頃は，反体制・反権力で，既存の社会体制を崩し理想的な社会を作ろうと情熱を傾けていたのに，いったん自分が成功してしまうと，それまでの自分の主張は忘れて体制寄りになり，あれほど軽蔑していた「勲章」のようなものまで受けてしまう。

無論，私の個人的な見解に過ぎず，それゆえ深読みし過ぎなのかもしれませんが，そう思われて仕方ありません。

世の中にこれだけ多くの曲が存在することを考えれば，既に馴染のある曲と似たような曲に出会うことも珍しくありません。この曲の場合，後ろでラップしているのはMike Shinodaじゃないんでしょうか？ これがLinkin Parkの新曲だと言われたらすっかり信じてしまうと思います。
With numerous songs out there, it's not uncommon to come across a song which sounds pretty similar to another song we've already known.  Isn't it Mike Shinoda who raps in the background?  I'd be convinced if someone told me it's a new Linkin Park's song.

この曲を聞き，数年前Mat Kearneyの声を初めて聞いた時のことを思い出しました。今でも彼とColdplayのChris Martinの声の聞きわけができません。

Career Day ザ・フォーマット (The Format)

歌詞の最後の方に登場する「エンディングから始めよう，古いもんは捨てなきゃな (In with the outro and out with the old)」は一体何を表しているのか？「古いものは捨てて新しいものと取り替える (Out with the old and In with the new)」というイディオムと関係しているように思われますが正確なことはわかりません。
What does the line "In with the outro and out with the old" refer to?  I had no idea when I first heard it.  I guess it has something with "Out with the old and In with the new" but I'm not sure.

（余談）

些細なことに無駄にこだわってしまう性格なので，「メタファー（暗喩）だよ，わかるだろ？いやちがうか，シムリ（直喩）だな (See that's a metaphor, no wait, a simile)」の箇所を読んだ時にはあるあると深く頷いてしまいました。以前取り上げたThe FormatのShe Doesn't Get Itにあった「「ニュー・レリジョン（New Religion）がマイソングだ」って言ったのに，全然わかってもらえなかった，確かに生まれる前だもんな」と同様，この一人ボケツッコミの芸風にかなり自分と近いものを感じます。

Toxic ブリトニー・スピアーズ (Britney Spears)

英語にはそれによってケガをしたり病気になったり死に至ったりする物質を表す言葉が3つあります：ポイズン(poison)，トキシン(toxin)そしてヴェノム(venom)です。ポイズンは生物に害を与える物質で，生物に由来するものと重金属や青酸などの非生物に由来するものがあります。トキシンは毒キノコやフグなどの自然界の生物が作り出すポイズンであり，ヴェノムは生物が他の生物を攻撃するために分泌するトキシンです。歌詞に登場する相手は（人間なので）生物であり，主人公が近づかなければさほど危険でもないので，タイトルのようにvenomousではなくtoxicと形容するのが正しいでしょう。
English has three words for describe a substance that causes injury, illness, or death: poison, toxin and venom.  A poison is a substance that has a noxious effect on living organisms. That can be derived from another living organism and from inorganic material like a heavy metal or cyanide.  A toxin is a poison produced by a living organism in nature such as mushrooms and plants.  A venom is a toxin secreted by from a living organism into another to harm it.  Since the second person is a living organism and pretty harmless unless the narrator gets close, they should be toxic not venomous.
