According to Songacts.com, the writer of this song started writing the lyrics during his service in the US navy aboard the U.S.S. Jason AR8 heading to Japan. In the song, the narrator misses the second person who gave up and left them.

英語が「ピタパタ」日本語が「ピチパチ」雨の音の表現には共通するものがあるようです。
それはともかく連日の猛暑です。美術や文学や音楽といったアートはどの時期にどういう状態で出会うかが非常に重要になると思われるので，どうせなら先月中にこの曲を取り上げればよかったと悔やまれます。
なにしろセミの声を大音響で聞きながら「Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain」と言われてもなかなか実感は沸きませんからね。
