Duet エヴリシング・エヴリシング (Everything Everything)

バンドの顔のJonathan Higgs曰く「この曲は世界の終わりに自分の好きな人と一緒にいる状況について書いたもの。たとえその世界が実際の世界ではなく，相手と自分との「世界」であったとしても」とか。
ヴィデオの中で彼は，ヴェスヴィオス山の噴火で起こった火砕流で破壊され，その後1600年以上にわたって灰に埋もれていたポンペイの街の住民を演じています。
私などヴィデオを見ているだけでも息苦しくなってくるのですが，これが彼の思い描く「この世の終わり」なのかもしれません。これに対してThe FrayがNever Say Neverで描いているそれはかなり違った感じになっています。http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2012/09/never-say-never-fray.html
Then band's front man, Jonathan Higgs said, "This song is about being with someone you love at the end of the world, even if it's just the world that you both share."
In the video, he portrays a citizen in Pompeii which was destroyed pyroclastic flows caused by a volcanic eruption of  Mt. Vesuvius and buried under the ashes for more than 1600 years.

取り残されてるって

*  "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."
「世界中に星の数ほど酒場はあるというのに、なぜ俺の店に来たんだ」という映画カサブランカのセリフを踏まえたものだそうです。

（余談）

曲が気に入ったので思い切って取り上げましたが，歌詞の内容の手がかりとなるような説明がほとんど見つからず本当に困りました。とにかく全体として破局ソングのようには思えるものの，メタファーが多用されていることもあって，具体的にどういう状況なのかがいまひとつ掴めないからです。

特に困ったのが最後の連で，なかでもacid in the tears aloneは「涙がヒリヒリするだけ」と訳していますが，それが一体何のことなのか，実はいまだにわかりません。「あいつら」も一体誰のことなのか不明ですし「Tarred and feathered genii」（侮辱された守護霊）の意味も同様です。

一応最後の箇所については，前後の文脈から「（本来は主人公を幸せにするべく守ってくれる）守護霊も（破局や火砕流という状況下においては）本来の役目を果たせない」ということで，「守護霊なんか役に立たない」としてありますがそれでも確信はありません。

要するにこの曲，歌詞の内容が徹頭徹尾わからないのですが，にもかかわらず，ミュージック・ヴィデオを見て曲を聴いていると，何故か「ああ～別れる寸前なわけね」と思えてくるから不思議です。
