「何故かそう思うんだ (I can't explain)」と繰り返す主人公ですが，彼がそう言うのは（社会通念上）彼がそう思った理由を周囲に説明することになっているからです。面白いことに，周囲に説明（時には弁明）しようとする行動に限って大抵説明できないものです。
"I can't explain", repeats the narrator.  He says so because he's expected to explain to others why he thinks so.  It's funny that those actions and behaviors we try to explain (or vindicate sometimes) to others are often those we can't.

（余談）

「説明できないが何故かそう思う」といった場合，それが我々のバイアスによるものであることは少なくありません。そしてそのバイアスが酷くなると，例えば恋愛関係においては，ストーカー行為に及んだりします。したがって，自分自身が周囲からどう見えているのかを認識する「メタ認知」が主人公にも必要な気もします。
