インタヴューで語った内容によると，James Bluntは現在重度の慢性腎臓病で闘病中であり臓器移植のドナーが現れるのを待っている自身の父親のためにこの曲を書いたそうです。
この曲に限らず歌詞に「monster (under my bed/under the bed)」が登場する曲は少なくありませんが，それはやがてやってくる「死」のメタファーなのかもしれません。
何とも言えない。半年前、ずっと疎遠だった父が亡くなったことを知らされた時のことを思い出した。父は、私の実母とは離縁していて、そのきっかけを作った後妻さんからの連絡で父の死を知った。食道癌からの転移があり、一年以上前から余命半年を言われていたらしい。

彼の成長、一つ一つが日々の楽しみだ。ありがたいことだ。
だが、時に思い出す。
父として息子にちゃんと向き合えているのか。逝ってしまった父は、こんな時、人らしい面倒をみてくれていたのか。
そう。忘れない。許しはいらない。
大人の男同士だ。
