I thought the narrator is lamenting they don't have much but that's not what they're trying to say.  It's true that they don't but they tell us to appreciate what we got and make the best of it.

（余談）

知り合いに頭髪方面に不安を抱えている人間がいて，ことあるごとに人生の不運の原因をその一点に求めています。彼自身は彼女に振られたことにも面接に落ちたことにも「頭髪問題」がその毛根・・・いや根本にあると考えているようですが，私に言わせればそれ以上にそう考える精神性の方に問題があるような気がしてなりません。
