あの頃の夏が懐かしい。子どもだった頃は「夏」という単語に魔力のようなものがあり，特にこれといった理由もないのに，それを聞くだけでわくわくしたものです。
I miss these summers.  When I was a kid, just a word, 'summer' would cast a magic spell on me and make me excited without any specific reason.

* sugar cane　・・・　棒状の飴
** novocaine　・・・　ノボカイン（局所麻酔用の薬，コカインの代用にされる）

（余談）

夏の間だけ使用できる屋外のプールに潜り，水底から上の方を眺めるとプールの水を通して揺れる青い空が見えてまるで夢の中にいるような気分になりました。

あれから数十年，今「夏」と聞くと「早く終わって秋になってくれ」と思うばかりです。
