One of The Brightest Stars ジェイムズ・ブラント(James Blunt)

James Blunt本人が語ったところによると，これは人の「認識」についての曲らしい。デビューアルバムが売れて，それまで思いもしなかった全く新しい人生が広がり，他人から声をかけられることが増えたとか。そしてそれがきっかけで，他人に対する我々の態度がどれほど簡単に変わるか気づいたそうです。この考え方は非常に面白いし深い。
音楽を聴くとき，私は「批評家にならない」ことを心がけています。音楽についてアレコレ批評できるほどの知識もスキルもない自分に言えるのは「この曲は好き（あるいは嫌い）」だからですが，それでも気が付くと「なんか変わっちゃったよなあ。前の方が良かったのに。こういうの向いてないんじゃないの」などと偉そうに言ってしまっています。一体何様なんだか。
According to James Blunt himself, this song is about "perception." The success of his first album, brought him a whole new life he'd never expected nor experienced before. Having many strangers come to say hello to him, he said he realized how we change our attitude towards others depending on their (social) status. I think his idea is very interesting and insightful.
Listening to music, what I always keep in my mind is "Don't be a critic. I have no skill to evaluate or criticize music. All I can say safely is "I love (or don't love) it." Trying not to be a critic, however, I often find myself saying, "Oh, what a shame! He (she/they) changed a lot. I love what he used to be and miss it so much. This kind of stuff is not for him." Who do I think I am?
