歌詞にはアメリカの主要都市がいくつか登場しますが，その一つがMotor Cityすなわちミシガン州デトロイト，モータウンサウンドの故郷です。
ところで，この曲，元々は深い意味はないただのダンス曲だったのですが，次第にアメリカにおける公民権運動の文脈で別の意味を持つようになり，プロテスト・ソングあるいは公民権運動のテーマ的存在となったため，当時ラジオではかなりかかりにくい曲になってしまいました。Dixie ChicksのNot Ready To Make Niceを思い出しますね。

In the lyrics appear some major cities in the U.S. and one of the them is Motor City i.e. Detroit, Michigan the home town of Motown sound.
