SFファンですか？もしそうなら，この下のヴィデオが描く世界に見覚えがあると思います。そうです。この曲はレイ・ブラッドベリ(Ray Bradbury)の小説「草原(The Veldt)」をモティーフにしています。この話はテクノロジーに慣れ過ぎて，それに過剰に依存してしまった家族の話ですが，詳細はこちらの「草原」の箇所をご覧ください。

ブラッドベリがこの話を書いた当時，そこで描かれたいた世界はまさにSFの世界でしたが，現在では，スマートフォンやオンライン・ゲーム，YouTubeなどといった快適で楽しいものに囲まれているため，部屋でTVやPCを見て過ごすケースも増えてきました。PCや電話さえあれば，出かけなくても，大抵のものが買える世の中になっているので，こういう世の中になるのも，もう時間の問題なのかもしれません。
Are you a big fan of sci-fi novels?  If you are, some of you may recognize what the video depicts.  Yes, the song refers to Ray Bradbury's novel, The Veldt.  A story about a family who are excessively accustomed to technology and become too dependent on it.  For details, see this:

When Ray Bradbury wrote the story, such a world depicted in it was totally a sci-fi, I mean unrealistic. Today, however, we are surrounded by technologies of comfort and leisure, such as smartphones, online games and YouTube and that turn many of us into couch potatoes or mouse jockeys.  We can buy almost anything via PC and phone.  Maybe it's not a question of if, but when we'll witness the world like this.

（補足）

この曲の歌詞には，元ネタの「草原」から借りてきた表現がいくつかあるそうです。したがって和訳する際にも邦訳に合わせて訳せば面白かったと思うのですが，残念ながら手元に邦訳がないため，今回は私が自分で訳しています。

（余談）

ここで取り上げたヴィデオ版は約３分ほどの短縮版ですが，本来は8分以上に及ぶ曲らしい。そういう意味でJustin TimberlakeのMirrorsを思い出します。
