Sweet Home Alabama リナード・スキナード (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

公民権運動に強く反対するアラバマ州を非難したNeil YoungのAlabamaという曲に呼応する形で書かれた曲だと言われており，歌詞の中にもMr. YoungやもっとはっきりNeil Youngという名前が登場し，彼のせいで州の評判が落ちたと言っています。表面的にはあからさまに人種隔離政策を支持し，変化を嫌っているように思われるこの曲ですが，実はそうではありません。
They say it's a response to Alabama by Neil Young which criticizes the Cotton State as one that is strongly against the civil rights movement.  In the lyrics of this song, Mr. Young or more specifically Neil Young appears and described as he disgraced Alabama.  On the surface, the song seems to blatantly support the segregation and is reluctant to change and it's pro-racism and pro-segregation but that's not true.

* 公民権運動に反対して「とにかく今日も人種隔離政策，明日も人種隔離政策。永遠に隔離政策です（I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.）」と言ったことや，黒人大学生の入学を阻止すべく大学の門の前に立ちはだかったことで知られる州知事のGeorge Wallaceのことですが，この部分In Birmingham they love the Gov'norの後には，「ブー，ブー，ブー」というブーイングが続き，ここで述べていることに反対しています。

（余談）

リード文でも述べたように，Neil YoungのAlabamaやSouthern Manという曲に対するいわば「アンサー・ソング」だと言われているこの曲ですが，だからといってNeil YoungとLynyrd Skynyrdとの間がギクシャクしているかというとそういうわけでもなく，Neil Youngがこの曲を自分のショウで演奏するなど，お互いにある種の「ネタ」として捉えているようです。
