Songfact.comによると，無名時代にDamien Riceは保険や住宅ローンを売るテレ・アポの仕事をしていたらしく，この曲はその頃の出来事について語ったものなんだとか。セールス電話に出た相手の女性に恋をしたものの，実は彼女は10代の学生で，夏休みに面白半分に彼との会話をしていたんだとか。
ところで，タイトルと歌詞に登場するblowerという言葉については，人によって取り方が異なるようで，クラリネット教師のことであるとする説，（吹き）ガラス職人であるとする説，そして電話のスラングであるとする説などがありますが，ここでは最後の説を採用しています。
According to Songfact.com, before becoming famous, Damien Rice once worked as a telemarketer at a call center, selling products like insurance and mortgages.  This song is about an incident in which he fell for a woman answering his call but she turned out to be a teenage girl who's just using him for entertainment.
As for the meaning of  'the blower', people have a different opinion.  Some say it represents a clarinet teacher, some say a glass blower and others say it's a slang for telephone.  I'd take the last one.

（余談）

実は同じような話は私も聞いたことがあって，友人の同僚はネット上で知り合った男性と意気投合。自分の悩みを打ち明け全幅の信頼を置いていたところ，その後相手が14歳の男子中学生だと判明して愕然としたんだとか。この時のDamien Riceといいその時の彼女といい，その時の衝撃はいかばかりかと思わずにはいられません。
