人間を含め動物の50％は雑食なのだとか。進化論的視点から見れば，雑食であることは人間にとって有利に働いたのではないでしょうか？仮に人間が草食あるいは肉食だったとすると，約20万年前に始まった南アメリカへの旅は，チリのモンテ・ヴェルデに到達する遥か前に終わってしまっていたと思われます。
Wikipediaによると，吸血鬼とは「伝説に登場する存在で，生きている人間の「命の素(life essence)」だけを（一般的には血液の形で）摂取して生きている」とありますが，こういう偏った食生活をしていては，全世界に広がっていくことはなかなか難しいのではないでしょうか？
They say about 50 percent of animal species are omnivore, including we humans.  From an evolutionary point of view, I think being omnivore seems to be an advantage.  If humans had been a herbivore or carnivore, our journey to South America which started around 200,000 years ago would have ended much earlier before reaching Monte Verde in southern Chile.
Wikipedia defines a vampire as "(A vampire) is a being from folklore who subsists by feeding on the life essence (generally in the form of blood) of the living."  With such a specific diet, it wouldn't be very easy for them to dominate the world.
