現在では「若者(youth)」という言葉に性別はありませんが，以前は若い男性だけを表す言葉だったんだとか。そう考えると，最初の連の冒頭の4行は，若い男性と若い女性の対比とは考えるべきでしょう。
These days a word 'youth' is gender free.  They say, however, it represented only a young male before.  If it's true, we should take the opening four lines in the first stanza a comparison between a young boy and a young girl.

要するに「諸行無常」と言うことなのですが，そう言うと何故か妙に抹香臭くなってしまうのは何故なんでしょうか？
