GotyeのHearts A Messの歌詞にもあるように、恋というものは不公平で、先に好きになった方が負け。たとえめでたく付き合ったとしても、常にその関係が持続するとは限らず、上手く行かなれば別れが待っています。この別れ（破局）を扱った曲は大変多いのですが、私の見る限り３つのタイプに大別できるようです。Aタイプ：一人はまだ未練があるがもう一人の気持ちは既に離れている　Bタイプ：気持ちはお互い離れているが、それでも一方が他方をコントロールしようとしている。Cタイプ：互いの気持ちが離れてことに気づいている。Aタイプの例としてはSomeone Like YouやGoodbye My Loverが、BタイプにはSingle LadiesやI Will Surviveが入ります。そしてBroken Stringsやこの曲がCタイプです。.
余談ですが、彼James Bluntの曲のなかで最も有名なのがYou're Beautifulでしょう。ラジオでこの曲を初めて耳にした時、妹はすぐに気に入り、誰の曲か知ろうとしたものの、英語がさほど得意ではなかった彼女が聞き取れたのはわずかにJames B・・・なんとかという名前のみ。そこで彼女はこれは、かの「ソウルの名付け親」James Brownの曲に違いないと確信。その芸幅の広さに驚嘆したそうです。
As it's said in "Hearts A Mess" (Gotye), love isn't fair.  The one who falls for the other always loses.  Even if their relationship is mutual, it doesn't always last long.  When things don't work anymore between the two, they break up.  There are so many songs about a breakup and I think they consist of the following three types:  Type A:  One still loves the other who doesn't.  Type B:  Neither of them love the other but one of them just tries to keep hold on the other.   Type C:  Neither of them in love and both know it.  Type A includes songs such as "Someone Like You" and "Goodbye My Lover".  Type B "I Will Survive" and "Single Ladies".  "Broken Strings" and this are in Type C.
By the way, I think among his songs the most popular one is "You're Beautiful".  When my sister heard the song on the radio for the first time, she instantly liked it.  So she tried to figure out who sung it.  Unfortunately, she doesn't speak English very much and all she could get was a name like James B-something.  That led her to a conclusion that The Godfather of Soul, James Brown was the singer.  She was greatly surprised and impressed with his versatility.
