Hey Everybody ファイヴ・セカンズ・オブ・サマー (5 Seconds of Summer)

聞くところによると，5 Seconds of Summerは「ボーイズ・バンド」として見られたくないらしく，パンク・ロック・バンドとして活動してそこで認められたいと思っているんだとか。ここで今まで取り上げた彼らの曲にも「応援歌」のようなものがいくつかあって，ボーイズ・バンドにありがちな恋愛関係を歌った曲でないことを考えれば，それも当然で彼らがそう言うのも無理はなさそうです。
I heard 5 Seconds of Summer didn't like falling into the 'boys band' category and preferred to play as a punk rock band to be recognized as such.  Considering some of their songs I posted here are some kind of anthems and not entirely about a romantic relationship, which is often the case with a boys band, I don't think it's very surprising.  Their claim seems to be legitimate.

（余談）

この曲では歌詞にある「we don't have to live this way」を「だって別に人生はこうと決まったわけじゃない」と和訳しています。

というのもこの箇所，直訳すれば「こんな風に生きなきゃいけないわけじゃない」ですが，こう訳してしまうと「（間接的にはそうかもしれませんが）敢えて自分で選んでそうしている」ように思えます。本人にしてみれば別に好き好んで貧乏生活をしているわけではないので，このままでは「いつまでもこのままってわけじゃないんだから諦めるな」という彼らのメッセージが上手く伝わらないような気がします。

それはともかく，この曲の白眉はやはり「だけど俺が笑っちゃうのは，そんなことを言いながら，そこに残ってるヤツに限って，身に覚えがあるってことだ(And what's ironic to me, the ones that don't ever leave)」でしょう。

こういう人は珍しくなく，本人は善意でそうしているのかもしれませんが，言われる方にとっては余計なお世話である場合が少なくありません。別におだてる必要はないと思いますが，何もかも否定的に捉えるのもそれはそれで問題であると思われます。
