「道 (road)」という言葉は，我々の経験，記憶そして人生などを表すメタファーとして使われることが少なくありません。一般的には歌詞に登場する相手はPaul McCartneyが当時付き合っていたJane Asher あるいはThe Beatlesのバンド・メンバーだと言われています。
The word "road" is often used as a metaphor for our experience, memory and life.  It's said that the second person in this song refers to Paul McCartney's then-partner, Jane Asher or the band, The Beatles.

ただ個人的にはこの曲，主人公が神に祈っているように思われます。
