ある曲が映画の挿入歌だった場合，曲をその映画と結び付けて考えてしまうのが普通ですが，それでも曲の内容をきちんと理解さえしていれば何も問題はありません。例えばWhitney Houstonの歌うI Will Always Love Youを聞くと，映画「ボディガード」をおそらく連想しますが，曲の内容はその映画に合っています。ただいつもこうとは限りません。この曲の場合，聞くとおそらく大義のために自分を犠牲にした主人公が浮かぶので，この曲が彼の英雄的な死を扱ったものだと考えると思いますが実は違います。
When a song is featured in or written for a film, we usually listen to the song associating it with the film.  It wouldn't be a problem when you fully understand what the song's about.  For example, when you hear Whitney Houston sing I Will Always Love You, it probably reminds you of Bodyguard in which she portrayed the heroine and the message the song carries matches the film.  That's not always the case.  When we hear this song, what comes to us would be the hero who sacrifices himself for a great cause and we think it's about his heroic death.  No, it's not.

（余談）

リード文で述べたように「アルマゲドン」という映画の印象が強すぎて，今までこの曲を「ここは俺に任せろ。いいからお前は先に行け。心配すんな，これくらいで死にゃしねえよ」的な曲だと勝手に思い込んでいたのですが，今回初めて歌詞を見て（映画の内容に照らせば，父から娘への曲と考えればよいのかもしれませんが）実は忌々しいほど清々しいラヴ・ソングであることが判明いたしました。

正直なところ，個人的には最初の内容であって欲しかったような気もします・・・。
