「話がうますぎる」という表現があるように，人間は誰しも，現実は必ずしも完璧ではなくどこかしらに問題があるということがわかっています。また頭の片隅で，人がみな寛大かつ幸せで，悪意を抱いている人などひとりもいない場所など，この世に存在しないこともわかっています。だからこそ，完璧すぎるものを見たり聞いたりすると，落ち着かない気分になり，すぐに何かひどいことが起こるのではないかと不安になります。
As an expression "too good to be true" indicates, we all know that reality isn't always perfect and has something to worry about.  We also all know in the back of our head that there's no place like heaven where everyone is happy and tolerant and nobody has a bad intention.  So when we see or hear something too perfect, we often feel uncomfortable wondering something awful might happen soon.

（余談）

91年に発表されたこの曲は，一般にあの天安門事件のことを扱っていると言われていますが，曲を書いたMichael Stipeは，The Quietusのインタビューで「本当に他愛もない内容の曲なのでヒットした時はちょっと恥ずかしかったが，自分の違う一面を見せられたという点で大切な曲だと思う」と語っています。

私の知っているR.E.Mの曲と言えば，The One I Loveくらいですが，確かにあの曲は明るさとは対極にあるものなので，彼の主張もなるほどと思えるのですが，仮にそうだとするとこの曲を天安門事件と結びつけたのは一体何なのか？

この曲とタイトルのヒントになったのが，中国のプロパガンダ用ポスターだと言われているようなので，おそらくその辺りからの発想なのかもしれませんが，それと同時にリードで述べたように，物事にあまりに隙がないと不安になるという心理が働いているのかもしれません。
