Wellerman シー・シャンティ (Sea Shanty)

古い感じがしますよね？その通りです。実際大変に古く作られたのは約200年前です。タイトルの「Wellerman」はオーストラリアのシドニーを拠点にしていた捕鯨会社The Weller Bros.のことで，1830年から40年頃に主にニュージーランド沿岸で操業していました。
This song doesn't sound new, does it?  Yes, you're right.  It's old actually VERY old written about 200 years ago.  The title, Wellerman refers to a whaling company The Weller Bros. which was based on Sydney Australia and operating mainly along the coasts of New Zealand around 1830 and 1840.

けど嵐が吹き荒れて，船首が水に浸かったよ
本当にイヤな風だった

ボートを降ろしていないのに
クジラの尾びれが浮かび上がってそのまま船にぶつかった
そっち側にいたヤツは******ひとり残らず銛打ってそのクジラと戦ったけど
クジラは海に潜っていった

砂糖と紅茶とラム酒とをみんなに持って来てくれる
解体作業が終わったら

銛のロープは切らないしクジラも絶対逃がさない
そう船長は決めたけど，欲でそうしたわけじゃない
クジラ漁師の意地ってヤツだ
今度は船が捕まってクジラと一緒に道連れだ

40日かそれ以上
繋いだロープは緩んでたけど，またピンと張り出した
ボートはほとんど海に沈んで，残ったのはたった４隻
それでもクジラはくたばらなくて

聞いた話じゃ今もまだその戦いは続いてるって
銛のロープも切れていないし，クジラだって逃げてない
来るはずの補給船から定期的に連絡が来て
船長と船のみんなを励ましている
