「in the name of love（愛という名のもとに，愛という名目で）」という表現には，実際にその行為の背景にあるのは，愛ではなく他のものであるという否定的な意味があります。例えば，およそ戦争というものは「in the name of peace （平和の名のもとに）」行われるわけですが，その結果どうなるかというと，多くの人命が失われ，社会不安を引き起こして，混乱状態になるだけです。
An expression, "in the name of love" has a negative connotation that it's not love that actually drives the action but something else.  For example, every war is fought in the name of peace but they all end up in a confusion, claiming a number of human lives and triggering a social unrest.

この曲のなかに限って言えば，in the name of loveはその字義通りの使われ方をされているようですが，とはいうものの，和訳する際にこれをそのまま「愛という名のもとに」とやってしまうと，80年代のドラマのようになってしまうため，ここでは別の表現を採用しています。
