When "positive thinking" was a buzz word, I was pretty skeptical about it, thinking it's just ignoring the awful truth and deceiving yourself. Now I think it's just trying to see the world from a different perspective.

1968年にリリースされたこの曲はWalter Earl Brownが有名なMartin Luther King Jrのスピーチを元に書いたもので，彼に心を寄せていたElvisはこの曲を聞き「もうこれからは自分で納得できる曲と映画しかやらない（I'm never going to sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in.）」と語ったと言われています。
マネジャーのColonel Tom Parkerはこの曲に対して「Elvis向きの曲じゃない」と難色を示したそうですが，Elvisの熱意に負けて取りあえずレコーディングしてみたところ，バッキング・ヴォーカルの１人が感動のあまり涙を流すほどの出来だんたんだとか。
それだけにこれほどのアーティストに対し，反射的に「東スポ」を連想してしまう己を猛省する昨今です。
