学校では，他人に自分の要望を伝える場合には「would like to （[できれば]～したい）」を使えと習いました。仮定法であるため，くだけた「want to (～したい）」よりも丁寧に聞こえるからです。要求を伝えるのに前者を使っている主人公ですが，使い方はかなり押しが強い感じです。
At school, we're taught that we should use "would like to" instead when we tell others what we want to do.  It's conditional and therefore sounds polite than casual "want to".  Though the narrator uses the former to express what she wants to the second person but the way she uses it seems pretty imperative.

一気呵成に畳み掛ける主人公ですが，確かどこかで「男にはつれないふりをしなければダメだ」と読んだような気がします。
