果たしてこのたとえはどうかと思わないでもありませんが，凡そ人間関係というものは「冷蔵庫や冷凍庫に入った賞味期限のある食品」と同じなのではないでしょうか？

「賞味期限内」であるならばほぼ間違いなく美味しく食べられます（＝人間関係が上手くいく）が，問題は賞味期限が切れた場合で，どこまでが大丈夫でどこからがダメで処分すべきかは人によって判断基準が異なります。

こちらをお読みになっている方の中にも「高かったから」「珍しいものだから」等々の理由でなかなか手が付けられず，気が付くと賞味期限を大幅に過ぎていたという食品が冷蔵庫や冷凍庫に片隅に眠っている方は少なくないのではないでしょうか？

この曲の主人公とその相手も，いわば賞味期限をはるかに過ぎた食品（関係）を「食べてみる（維持しようとする）」か「そのまま処分する（別れる）」かの瀬戸際にあるように思われますが，歌詞を見る限りどうやら二人は「最後に一度食べてみる」ことにしたようです。

一般的にはそういった場合かなりの確率で消化器官に問題が生じると思われますが，個人的な経験で言えば：

・賞味期限を２年ほど過ぎた缶ジュースが缶内で自然発酵して発泡酒になっていた（飲んで確認）
