物事の性質上「優しさに溢れた場所」をその状態のままで保持しようとすればそこに「優しくないもの」を入れるわけにはいきません。そうしてしまうと「優しさに溢れた場所」の質が低下してしまうからです。

だとすれば「優しさに溢れた場所」をそのまま「優しさに溢れた場所」で存続させるためには「優しくないもの」を排除するという行為をせざるを得ず,そうすることで結果的に「（一定の部外者には）優しくない場所」になってしまいます。

ただしこの曲の場合はそこまで事態は深刻ではなく,主人公はその「優しさに溢れた場所」に行ったらすぐに感化されて「優しく」なりそうですが。

この曲は映画「ホームアローン２」に使われており，この曲がヒットしたことで歌っていたダーリン・ラヴも久しぶりに表舞台に復活したのだとか。

それはともかく，知り合いに「サンタを信じている限りプレゼントが貰える」という謎のマイルールを己に課し実に高校生になるまでその「信念」を持ち続けた人がいるのですがこうなると最早「ガマン大会」と言えるような気がします。

生物学的な見方をすれば，イエスの生誕物語は筋が通りません。勿論流れ星は実際に起こったかもしれませんが，処女懐胎の方はもっといい説明がつくような気がします。

歌詞の内容を全く知らなかったにもかかわらず，この曲をクリスマスと結び付けていたのは考えてみると不思議です。確かに賑やかな感じのする曲ですがそれが理由とは思われません。
It's strange that I didn't know what this song is talking about but associated it with the holiday season nonetheless.  It sounds pretty festive but I don't think it's the reason.

おそらくクリスマスを連想させる最大の原因は「シャンシャンシャン」というソリの鈴の音ではないかと思われますが，とはいうものの己の人生を振り返ってみてもソリについた鈴の音を実際に聞いたことなどただの一度もありません。

すなわち，この曲にしろ，ソリについた鈴の音にしろ，ソリ遊びにしろ，己の実体験とはかけ離れたあくまでも「クリスマス」という記号に過ぎないわけです。

そして同じことがおそらくポップソングにたびたび登場する「夏の夜のパーティ」にも言えるのでしょう。豪華なプールサイドやビーチ，あるいは豪邸でのパーティと聞くと，すぐにイメージは浮かびますが，果たして自分の人生でそのような機会が一度でもあったでしょうか？
無論「そんなのフツーにあった」という方もおいでになるとは思いますが，個人的には皆無であり，おそらく映画やドラマで繰り返し見たことを刷り込まれていると考えるよりほかありません。

だとすればこの曲を聞くたびにクリスマスを連想してしまうのは，映画やドラマの中で目にしたパーティ・シーンと同様，これまでにクリスマスの時期に繰り返しこの手の曲を耳にしてきたからであって，そういった意味でベルの音を聞いてよだれを垂らす「パブロフの犬」と大差ないのかもしれません。

クリスマスの面倒臭さについては，キリスト教の信者でない私が言うだけでは説得力がないのは当然ですが，海外の掲示板などを見ても，キリスト教を信じている（あるいはキリスト教圏に生まれてこれまで暮らして来た）人々もそのように考えているようです。

以前どこかで「キリスト教圏におけるクリスマスは日本におけるお正月であって，親戚縁者が集まるどこか堅苦しく面倒な行事である」と読んだ記憶があります。

曰く日本の正月同様，その日に向けてのプレゼント（おせち料理）の用意，来客に備えて家の掃除（大掃除），粗末なプレゼントを寄越す義理家族や親戚に対する憤懣等々と・・・確かに日本とさほど変わらないようでした。
