これが「the one（運命の人）」と「the secod（二番手）」ならずっと理解しやすかったのですが，実際には「one（１）」と「two（２）」です。
Had it been 'the one' and 'the second', it would have been much easier for me to understand.  It's, however, 'one' and 'two' instead.

そうなったら素直に「１」と「２」と訳すほかありません。おそらく「ナンバーワン」と「ナンバーツー」的な意味だとは思いますが。
