I have heard that every one of us has a special music running deep inside our soul and whatever music we love in our lives has something in common with it. I always translate English lyrics into Japanese, wondering what my music sounds like.
To me this song seems to pair up with her Big Girls Cry making it the prequel. http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2014/07/big-girls-cry-sia.html
The protagonist expresses what she really feels in the song and asks for help. When we're so depressed and devastated, many of us feel this way. It's often just a nice little thing, such as affirmative words or a positive feedback that we all need at that time. Sometimes just holding a hand makes a huge difference. Breathe Me (Sia)
Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And the worst part is there's no one else to blame
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small, and needy
Warm me up and breathe me
Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found
Yeah, I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small, and needy
Warm me up and breathe me
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small, and needy
Warm me up and breathe me
What the hell happened on 'the night'? The protagonist doesn't talk very much about it but it must have been something horrible. Horrible enough to break up with his girl (or guy, I don't know). Anyway, throughout the lyrics, he swings between taking his responsibility and running away from it, asking her to "blame it on the night". Blame (Calvin Harris ft. John Newman)
Can't be sleeping
Keep on waking
Without the woman next to me
Guilt is burning
Inside I'm hurting
This aint a feeling I can keep
So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Can't you see it
I was manipulated
I had to let her through the door
I had no choice in this
I was the friend she missed
She needed me to talk
So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Oh I'm so sorry, so sorry baby

I will be better this time
Once I tried to pick up this song. Probably more than 2 years ago. Soon, however, I found myself lost in the lyrics, completely unable to decipher them. The message the song was trying to deliver was unclear to me. I couldn't even finish translating the first verse which now I have no difficulty to understand. I think I was unprepared then. Still some lines of the lyrics are not crystal clear to me but now it's time for me to post this. Hometown Glory (Adele)
I've been walking in the same way as I did
And missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
"Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I could call?
No, and thank you, please madam, I ain't lost, just wandering"
Round my hometown, memories are fresh
Round my hometown, ooh, the people I've met
Are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world, are the wonders and now
I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love it to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides
Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain't gonna take it
Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Round my hometown, memories are fresh
Round my hometown, uuh, the people I've met
Are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world, are the wonders of my world
Of my world, yeah, of my world, of my world, yeah
Things have two sides. The well-known expression, "Is the glass half empty or half full?" vividly demonstrates it. Even in the same situation, some interpret it as positive while others take it as negative. The song title, Best Mistake could be interpret both ways. You can take it either positive or negative depending on which word, Best or Mistake you focus on. Best Mistake (Ariana Grande ft. Big Sean)
How soon do we forget how we felt
Dealing with emotions that never left
Playing with the hand that we were dealt, in this game *
Maybe I'm the sinner, and not a saint
Got to stop pretending what we ain't
Why we pointing fingers anyway? We're all the same
Break up, make up
Total waste of time
Can we please make up our minds?
And stop acting like we're blind
Cause if the water dries up
And the moon stops shining
Stars fall, and the world goes blind
Boy you know, I'll be savin' my love for you, for you
'Cause you're the best mistake I've ever made
But we hold on, hold on
There's no pot of gold at the rainbows we chase
But we hold on, hold on
[Big Sean]
I guess times wasting, tick tocking lip locking
How can we keep the feelings fresh how do we zip lock it
Wear your heart up on your sleeves so watch out for pickpockets
I guess to go the distance we might need to pit stop it
Hold love, I know love can be a beach with no shore
I done count to ten lost my temper and went back to four
I know sometimes it's hard to realize I'm the man that you need
I had a dream we branched out started a family tree
And I feel like everything we do is overdue
You asked why I love your mom so much 'cause she's an older you
I wish you were happy I guess thats the one thing I should be providing
Ain't no number twos we both ones and ones the oddest
Just a couple lonely humans except you, you a goddess
Only lying to you when I lie you down, just being honest **
When you start as friends it's hard to say you're never going back
If I'm not the one then I'm the best mistake you ever had
Break up, make up
Total waste of time
Can we please make up our minds?
And stop acting like we're blind
'Cause if the water dries up
And the moon stops shining
Stars fall, and the world goes blind
Boy you know I'll be savin' my love for you, for you
'Cause you're the best mistake I've ever made
But we hold on, hold on
There's no pot of gold at the rainbows we chase
But we hold on, hold on
You're, you're, you're, you're
I be savin' my love for you, for you
(Best mistake you ever had, best mistake you ever had)
You're, you're, you're, you're
(Best mistake you ever had, best mistake you ever had)
I be savin' my love for you, for you
** Only lying to you when I lie you down, just being honest
Got Here If You Canを歌ったのを聞いた時ほどには感動しませんでした。http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2013/08/got-here-if-you-can-oleta-adams.html
The other day my sister sent me a link to a video on YouTube in which a young girl in her teens sang She Wolf by David Guetta. Comparing her to young Jessie J, my sister spoke highly of her, saying she's 11 or so. Actually she's 14. She's awesome, I admit, but honestly I was far more impressed with Jessie J's Got Here If You Can (Oleta Adams), She was 15 then. http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2013/08/got-here-if-you-can-oleta-adams.html
That reminded me of Michael Jackson. According to Wikipedia, this song made Michael Jackson the third youngest solo artist to score a number-one hit single, led by Stevie Wonder. Ben (The Jackson 5)

Ben, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With a friend to call my own
I'll never be alone
And you, my friend will see
You've got a friend in me

Ben, you're always running here and there

I wish they would try to
I'm sure they'd think again

(Whole life changed while bones like yours and mine)という箇所があるためです。 http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2013/04/bang-bang-cher-nancy-sinatra-stephen.html
I think the protagonist and the second person were friends when they're very young. I concluded so because the lyrics have the line, "Whole life changed while bones like yours and mine". Although the writer uses 'bones', it probably means 'bodies'. They grew up and fell in love with each other. It reminds me of Cher's Bang Bang. http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2013/04/bang-bang-cher-nancy-sinatra-stephen.html (Unlike this song, its ending is rather sad, though.) Dear Boy (Avicii ft. MØ)
So bold and fine, I've known you for some time
Whole life changed while bones like yours and mine
Go dance in the woods and down we go, down, down
Oh boy, you're mine, do you remember old times?
Oh, dear boy, I wanna follow you
You're a wild boy, I am a wild girl, too
Oh dear boy, it's so hollow without you
In a world with everything but it won't do
Oh, dear boy, I wanna follow you
You're a wild boy, I am a wild girl, too
Oh, dear boy, it's so shallow in the blue
It's our time for everything and I call you
Sweet love of mine, destruction ain't a crime
For those who find love as a game like you and I
Go dance in the waters of all the tears we have cried
Oh boy, we're fine, do you remember our time?
Oh, dear boy, I wanna follow you
You're a wild boy, I am a wild girl, too
Oh dear boy, it's so hollow without you
In a world with everything but it won't do
Oh, dear boy, I wanna follow you
You're a wild boy, I am a wild girl, too
Oh, dear boy, it's so shallow in the blue
It's our time for everything and I call you
it's so shallow in the blue...
Like me most of you probably remember this song as one which was dedicated to Princess Diana who was killed in a car accident on August 31st 1997. It's originally dedicated to Marilyn Monroe (Norma Jeane was her real name.) It holds true to many celebrities who passed away too soon, such as Michael Jackson. Candle In The Wind (Elton)
Goodbye Norma Jeane
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Goodbye Norma Jeane
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the twenty second row
Who sees you as something more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Hilarious! You can't miss the music video. It's worth watching. At first probably you'll be a bit puzzled. While people on the lake are having a good time dancing and riding a watercraft, a girl in the video seems to be pretty heartborken. The paper she holds reads Decree of Divorce. It's not very easy for us to understand how they interact with the girl but they do, trust me.
Anyway, I know I'm not a fashion expert and don't know much about it. Still to me the duo doesn't seem to belong to the population on the lake. They look a bit...er...older, don't they? I strongly recommend they wear something else... something other than that loud pants. One Minute More (Capital Cities)
Don't wait for an invitation
No need for reservation
This life is an exploration
And you gotta see what I see in you
I can't wait one minute more
The sun does shine
The sun does shine
We can't wait one minute more
The sun does shine
The sun does shine
Just think of the destination
I'll be your transportation
We'll find there's a kind of place
That can only be seen with a naked mind
I can't wait one minute more
The sun does shine
The sun does shine
We can't wait one minute more
The sun does shine
The sun does shine
There's a key that opens a door
Will you find it and turn it?
Take your time, don't take too long
There's a map that's washed ashore
Will you find it and burn it?
Unleash your imagination
Two stars, one constellation
Bright lights just to guide the way
Can you see what I see in you?
I can't wait one minute more
The sun does shine
The sun does shine
We can't wait one minute more
The sun does shine
The sun does shine
歌詞に登場する「地図は浜辺に流れついてる,それを見つけて焼き捨てるのか?(There's a map that's washed ashore, Will you find it and burn it?)」
(There's a key that opens a door, Will you find it and turn it?)」
On the surface, it's a song about a TV show Games Without Frontiers which aired in 1960s and 1970s in European countries, including UK but most people believe it has a deeper meaning beneath it. Some say it's a song about skirmishes, regional conflicts and wars. Other mention a novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding as a reference. Games Without Frontiers (Peter Gabriel)

* Games Without Frontiers
** Whistling tunes we're kissing baboons in the jungle・・・本来,アルバムでは

Wow, what a voice! I was blown away and completely hooked. Mesmerized, I couldn't move a bit listening to her fascinating voice. I've never expected a voice like this of such a young girl. To me she looks like a teen idol, like Selena Gomez or Ariana Grande. No, she's not. She reminds me of Eminem somehow. Probably because she's rapping about life. Gangsta (Kat Dahlia)
[Hook]
You say you a gangsta, that don’t impress me none
You say you a gangsta, ain’t seen a thing you've done
I do it all on myself, I ain’t getting help
From no one, from no one
[Verse 1]
Yeah I’m young, 21, living in a crazy world
But I know the difference between a man and a herb
You frontin’ like you got it, claim they hatin’ on your wallet
Gucci telling you the time and you watch it
No I ain't stunting like my daddy, he’s livin’ with my granny
Used to be a big baller, he's surviving off of gambling
But I love him he’s my daddy, yeah I love him he’s my daddy
Put him in a big house before I ever see a Grammy
And my mommy started working days at the church
Finding faith in God cause the real world hurts, so much evil lurks
They just make us work but we can’t find work
Abuela, mommy and the girls in a one bedroom
South beach lifestyle, they just paying for the view
Mommy on the couch since she was 42
Sacrificing for the kids cause that’s what mommies do
So I smoke my spliff, I spliff it hard
Candi says to stop, my voice is getting too harsh
So I sobered up and my thoughts they rush
And now I think of you behind bars
Cross state lines, they spliffing good
In Miami you catch a charge and the whole family tears apart
[Hook x2]
[Verse 2]
And this recession so depressing
My parents don’t stop stressing
Just hoping I learned all their lessons
Mmm and I’m paying for this session, I’m paying for this session
And I’m paying rent, food, clothes, phones, christmas presents
Six shots in, I’m just counting all my blessings
No days off baby, I ain’t resting
I told my sins, now I'm done confessing
[Hook]
[Verse 3]
One way to the top, I'll make with what I got
You want my number, baby, I’m on a mission, catch up
Men selling love like thieves
But when the girlie leaves he’ll start flirting with me
So I took on my heart, off my sleeve
Never trust a man cause they all hungry
Yeah, they all hungry
Never trust a man cause they all hungry
[Bridge x2]
Right when you thought you had me
Baby, you just lost someone
Finally got over you
Baby, time to move on
Never learned your lesson
Ain’t even gon' question
Why it went so wrong
[Outro]
You say you a gangsta, that don’t impress me none
You say you a gangsta, ain’t seen a thing you done
I said, "Oh, I knew it!" when I heard the song the other day. I just didn't know who sung it and probably I was not the only one. For some reason, I thought it's about Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing but it's actually, as you see in the title, about Wuthering Heights, a novel by Emily Bronte which takes place in a moorland in the northern England. The tune is so unforgettable that it stays in your head for a while once you hear it. Wuthering Heights (Kate Bush)
Out on the wiley, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
Too hot, too greedy.
How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.
Bad dreams in the night.
They told me I was going to lose the fight,
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights.
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.
Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,
On the other side from you.
I pine a lot. I find the lot
Falls through without you.
I'm coming back, love.
Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,
My only master.
Too long I roam in the night.
I'm coming back to his side, to put it right.
I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering,
Wuthering Heights,
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.
Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
You know it's me--Cathy!
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.
Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
Come home. I'm so cold!
Thinking the album title is Ghost Stories, which this track is taken from, this song could be interpreted in this context. I mean the protagonist is literally talking to the 'ghost' of his loved one (second person) who has passed away.
At the same time the album title could be a metaphor. Considering Chris Martin explained the idea of the album was how to deal with your past or 'ghost' it should be taken metaphorically. This time the second person represents someone who used to be close to the protagonist but not any more. Always In My Head (Coldplay)
I think of you
I haven't slept
I think I do
But I don't forget
My body moves
Goes where I will
But though I try my heart stays still
It never moves
Just won't be led
And so my mouth waters to be fed
And you're always in my head
You're always in my head
You're always in my head
Always in my head
This, I guess
Is to tell you you're chosen out from the rest
This song could be about depression, addiction or more literally leaving home for somewhere. In a nutshell, I think it's a song about a person who is at the crossroads of their lives. Doing something new isn't always easy. It scares you and discourages you sometimes, especially when you're not sure if you can make it. At that time staying where you are right now seems far more comfortable. It pulls you so hard that sometimes you think you should give in even though knowing it'd take you nowhere. The Draw (Bastille)
In my left hand there is the familiar
In my right hand there’s the great unknown
I can see the madly different grass there
But I’m drawn to wilder nights at home
Don’t listen to your friends
See the despair behind their eyes
Don’t listen to your friends
They only care once in a while
I can feel the draw
I can feel it pulling me back
It’s pulling me back
It’s pulling me
I can feel the draw
I can feel it pulling me back
It’s pulling me back
It’s pulling me
Are you drifting way beyond what’s normal?
'Cause 'round your mind rings the words that they would say?
When you go home everything looks different,
And you're scared of being left behind.
Just listen to your friends
Trusted that fair look in their eyes
Just listen to your friends
They only care and hope you're alright
I can feel the draw
I can feel it pulling me back
It’s pulling me back
It’s pulling me
I can feel the draw
I can feel it pulling me back
It’s pulling me back
It’s pulling me
(whoa oh oh oh…
Whoa oh oh oh oh…)
I can feel the draw
I can feel it pulling me back
It’s pulling me back
It’s pulling me
I can feel the draw
I can feel it pulling me back
It’s pulling me back
It’s pulling me
I've got bipolar disorder
my shits not in order
I'm overweight
I'm always late
I've got too many things to say
I rock mom jeans
cat earrings
extrapolate my feelings
my family is dysfunctional
but we have a good time killing each other
They tell us from the time were young
to hide the things that we don't like about ourselves
inside ourselves
I know I'm not the only one who spent so long
attempting to be someone else
well I'm over it
I don't care if the world know what my secrets are, secrets are
I don't care if the world knows what my secrets are, secrets are
so what
so what
so what
so what
I can't think straight
I'm so gay
sometimes I cry
a whole day
I care a lot
use an analog clock
And never know when to stop
and I'm passive aggressive
I'm scared of the dark and the dentist
I love my butt, and won't shut up
and I never really grew up
They tell us from the time were young
to hide the things that we don't like about ourselves
inside ourselves
I know I'm not the only one
who spent so long attempting to be someone else
well I'm over it
I don't care if the world know what my secrets are, secrets are
I don't care if the world knows what my secrets are, secrets are
so what
so what
so what
so what
[Opera break/bridge]
[Laughing]
I don't care if the world know what my secrets are, secrets are
I don't care if the world knows what my secrets are, secrets are
so what
so what
so what
so what
so what
so what
People say it's about love. Not the bright and happy side of love but a rather dark side of it. When you're in love, you're in a way trapped in it. You think of your love, worries about them and be afraid to fail them or that they hate you. Sometimes it prevents you from being yourself. You often try to be someone else who they expect you to be. That's agonizing. So in the song, the protagonist chose to be alone (and free) but was it what he really wanted? Song For Zule (Phosphorescent)
Some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh but I know love as a fading thing
Just as fickle as a feather in a stream
See, honey, I saw love, you see it came to me
It puts its face up to my face so I could see
Yeah then I saw love disfigure me
Into something I am not recognizing
See the cage, it called...I said, come on in
I will not open myself up this way again
Nor lay my face to the soil, nor my teeth to the sand
I will not lay like this for days now upon end
You will not see me fall, nor see me struggle to stand
To be acknowledged by some touch from his gnarled hands
You see the cage, it called...I said, come on in
I will not open myself this way again
You see the moon is bright in that treetop night
I see the shadows that we cast in the cold clean light
My feet are gold and my heart is white
And we race right out on the desert plains all night
See honey I am not some broken thing
I do not lay in the dark waiting for thee
No my heart is gold, my feet are light
And I am racing out on the desert plains all night
So some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Ah but I know love as a caging thing
Just a killer come to call from some awful dream
O and all you folks, you come to see
You just to stand there in the glass looking at me
But my heart is wild and my bones are steam
And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free
Come With Me Nowというタイトルに騙されないでください。 Come with me now, Come with me nowという部分から始まるので,よくあるパーティー用の曲だと思うかもしれませんが,実際は違います。
Don't be fooled by the song title Come With Me Now. The song starts with the chorus "Come with me now, Come with me now" and sounds like another party pop but it's actually not.
When I choose a song to translate, I usually don't finish it. I just listen to it for the first 1 minute or so reading the lyrics at the same time. If I like it, I'll pick it up for my blog entry, if I don't, it's gone. There are songs, however, make me to finish it without interruption. This is one of them. Come With Me Now (Kongos)
Come with me now
Come with me now
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna take you down
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna show you how
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna take you down
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna show you how
Afraid to lose control
And caught up in this world
I've wasted time, I've wasted breath
I think I've thought myself to death
I was born without this fear
Now only this seems clear
I need to move, I need to fight
I need to lose myself tonight
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna take you down
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna show you how
I think with my heart and I move with my head
I open my mouth and it's something I've read
I stood at this door before, I'm told
But a part of me knows that I'm growing too old
Confused what I thought with something I felt
Confuse what I feel with something that's real
I tried to sell my soul last night
Funny, he wouldn't even take a bite
Far away
I heard him say (Come with me now)
Don't delay
I heard him say (Come with me now)
Far away
I heard him say (Come with me now)
Don't delay
I heard him say (Come with me now)
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna take you down
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna show you how
Afraid to lose control
And caught up in this world
I've wasted time, I've wasted breath
I think I've thought myself to death
I was born without this fear
Now only this seems clear
I need to move, I need to fight
I need to lose myself tonight
Whoa, come with me now
Whoa, come with me now
I'm gonna take you down
Whoa, come with me now
よく利用するSongmeanings.comでIf You Like Pina Coladas (Jimmy Buffet)というタイトルを見た時には,一体それがどんな内容の曲なのか予想もしていませんでした。
When I saw the title If You Like Pina Coladas (Jimmy Buffet) on my favorite Songmeanings.com, I didn't have the slightest idea of what the song was about. It's originally written by Rupert Holmes under the title of Escape (The Pina Colada Song). Despite the pretty upbeat and joyous sounds, what the protagonist is looking for is an 'adventure' or more specifically an affair with a stranger.
Am I the only one who feels something ominous await him there? I'm sure he will need a divorce lawyer someday. Escape (The Pina Colada Song) (Rupert Holmes/Jimmy Buffet)
I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long
Like a worn-out recording of a favorite song
So while she lay there sleepin', I read the paper in bed
And in the personal columns there was this letter I read
'If you like Pina Coladas, getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes on the cape
I'm the love that you've looked for write to me and escape'
I didn't think about my lady, I know that sounds kinda mean
But me and my old lady had fallen into the same old dull routine
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad
And though I'm nobody's poet, I thought it wasn't half bad
"Yes, I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon and cut through all this red tape
At a bar called O'Malleys where we'll plan our escape"
So I waited with high hopes and she walked in the place
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face
It was my own lovely lady and she said, "Oh, it's you?"
Then we laughed for a moment and I said, "I never knew"
"That you liked Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean and the taste of champagne
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes on the cape
You're the lady I've looked for, come with me and escape"
If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes on the cape
I'm the love that you've looked for, write to me and escape
Yes, I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon and cut through all this red tape
At a bar called O'Malleys where we'll plan our escape
The song is from the film Begin Again (2014), and is on the movie’s official soundtrack. In the film, Adam Levine portrays Keira Knightley's ex. boyfriend who is now a successful artist. They broke up after she found out he had an affair. That's how the film goes. In reality he recently married one of his ex. girlfriend. I strongly hope he will not follow suite with the character he represented in the film. Lost Stars (Adam Levine)
[Verse 1]
Please don't see just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies
Please see me reaching out for someone I can't see
Take my hand let's see where we wake up tomorrow
Best laid plans sometimes are just a one night stand
I'd be damned Cupid's demanding back his arrow
So let's get drunk on our tears and
[Chorus]
God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
[Verse 2]
Who are we? Just a speck of dust within the galaxy?
Woe is me. if we're not careful turns into reality
Don't you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page maybe we'll find a brand new ending
Where we're dancing in our tears and
[Chorus]
God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
[Bridge]
I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying
Just the same
[Chorus]
God, give us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
They say it's a response to Alabama by Neil Young which criticizes the Cotton State as one that is strongly against the civil rights movement. In the lyrics of this song, Mr. Young or more specifically Neil Young appears and described as he disgraced Alabama. On the surface, the song seems to blatantly support the segregation and is reluctant to change and it's pro-racism and pro-segregation but that's not true. Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the south-land
I miss Alabamy once again
And I think it's a sin
Well I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don't need him around any how
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
In Birmingham they love the Gov'nor (boo boo boo)
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they've been known to pick a song or two
Lord they get me off so much
They pick me up when I'm feeling blue
Now how bout you?
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
(I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.)」 In Birmingham they love the Gov'norの後には,「ブー,ブー,ブー」というブーイングが続き,ここで述べていることに反対しています。
The Fault in Our Starsに提供することにしたCharli。
According Songfacts.com, the song was written for Hilary Duff, an American actress, singer-songwriter. Although Charli XCX was excited with the idea offering a song to Hilary, it was turned down on the ground that it's not cool enough for Hilary. Being discouraged, Charli decided to contribute it to the film, The Fault in Our Stars. I hope it'll become a smash hit. Boom Clap (Charli XCX)
You're picture perfect blue
Sunbathing on the moon
Stars shining as your bones illuminate
First kiss just like a drug
Under your influence
You take me over you're the magic in my veins
This must be love
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
No silver or no gold
Could dress me up so good
You're the glitter in the darkness of my world
Just tell me what to do
I'll fall right into you
Going under cast a spell just say the word
I feel your love
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
You are the light and I will follow
You let me lose my shadow
You are the sun the glowing halo
And you keep burning me up with all of your love
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
Boom clap
The sound of my heart
The beat goes on and on and on and on and
Boom clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me come on to me now
Somebody That I Used To Knowに敬意を表してMelbourneにすべきなのか,はたまた個人的に思い入れのあるJames Morrisonの地元Cornwallにすべきなのか,なかなかに悩ましいところです。
One day I woke up and found this tune stuck in my head. It went on and on and on and never stopped until I decided to pick it up. Even after that, the song recurred now and then as if it reminded me of posting it. Was that a kind of curse of something? I don't know but if it is, then whose? I'm innocent, I guess. The Way We Were (Barbra Streisand)
Memories, light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories of the way we were.
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
smiles we gave to one another
for the way we were.
Can it be that it was all so simple then
or has time rewritten every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
tell me would we? Could we?
Memories, may be beautiful and yet
what's too painful to remember
we simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter we remember
whenever we remember
the way we were.
