一般的にこの曲は，自分を支えてくれる恋人を持つ人間を主人公にした曲だと言われていますし，最初に歌詞を見た時の印象もまさにそうでした。確かにシンプルでわかりやすい歌詞ですが，ただ一箇所だけよくわからないところがありました。「あいつがベッドで泣いてる間 (While she lays crying)」です。何故泣くのか？ヒントはこれです：「お前」「君」「あなた」「アンタ」「お宅」などの日本語と異なり，英語の人称代名詞 (you)には，年齢や性別の区別がありません。
People think this song is about a person who has a supportive significant other.  That's exactly what I thought when I read the lyrics.  They seemed quite simple and self explanatory until I stumbled on the line, "While she lays crying".  That puzzled me.  Why does she cry?  Here's a clue.  Unlike Japanese counterpart(s), English pronoun for the second person, you is not always associated with a certain age or sex.

（余談）

リードで述べたことは，あくまでも私の解釈なので本当は違っているのかもしれませんが，その方が圧倒的に筋が通ります。

なにしろ大人は滅多なことでは「（大声を出して）泣き」ません。一般的に言われているように，「あいつ」が主人公を広い心で支えられるほどの相手なら猶更です。むしろ逆に，主人公がそうした場合，それをなだめる立場でしょう。

だとすれば歌詞に登場する相手は，泣いてもおかしくない人間，すなわち子どもであり，したがって主人公の娘だと考えた方が筋が通るような気がします。

それはともかく，個人的に「ケニー」と聞くと，彼しか思い出せません。このままでは何かがマズい気がします。
