In general, English is less gender conscious than Japanese in many ways. The first person pronoun 'I' and the second person pronoun 'you' can be used for both a male and a female. There are few exceptions in which English is more gender conscious. For example, the third person pronoun 'she' exclusively refers to a female or a feminine noun like country and ship but the Japanese counterparts like 'anohito' and 'aitsu' represent both a male and female.
