So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill
Asking for the buried treasure
Tons of gold for which they'd kill
Came an answer from the kingdom
"With our brothers, we will share

All the riches buried there"

Now the valley cried with anger
"Mount your horses, draw your sword!"
And they killed the mountain people
So they won their just reward
Now they stood beside the treasure
On the mountain, darkened red
Turned the stone and looked beneath it
"Peace on earth" was all it said

子どもたちよくお聞き，これからするお話は
ずっと昔に作られた
山の上の王国と
その下の谷に住む人たちのお話だ
その山の天辺にゃ
石がひとつ置かれてて
その下の深いところに宝物が埋まってた
だから谷の人たちはずっと心に決めていた
いつかきっとそのお宝を自分だけのものにするって

やっちゃいな，隣人だって憎めばいいし
やっちゃいな，友達だって裏切りゃいいよ
神様のためってことでやっちゃって
理由は最後につけちゃえばいい
終末のラッパの音も聞こえなきゃ
審判の日なんてものも来やしない
ある忌まわしい日の朝に
ひとりのオモチャの兵隊が馬に乗って向かった後も

それで谷に住んでる人は
丘の上に知らせ送って
埋めてあるお宝をこっちに寄越せと迫っていった
山ほど金があるんなら人殺しだってやってやるって
そしたらそこから返事があった：
「仲間ですから
山の秘密も
そこに眠る財宝もひとつ残らず分けましょう」って

谷に住む人たちは
「馬に乗って剣を抜け！」と大声上げて怒りまくった
そうして山の人を殺して
その正当な報酬を勝ち取ったわけだけど
やっと宝のそばまで行って
血で濡れて真っ赤になった山の上
重しの石を外してみたらその下に
「地上の平和」とただそれだけがそっけなく書かれてあった

私なら「仲間ですから山の秘密もそこに眠る財宝もひとつ残らず分けましょう」と言われた時点で「いいんですか？ラッキー！言ってみるもんだなあ」と大歓喜ですけどねえ。
