O Holy Night セリーヌ・ディオン(Celine Dion)

アメリカでは一般的に感謝祭の翌日からクリスマスのホリデーシーズンが始まります。今年の感謝祭は１１月２４日なので今日２５日がホリデーシーズンの始まり。そこで"O Holy Night"を取り上げてみました。
この曲、以前から好きな曲だったのですがかなり長い間、題名がわからぬままでした。特に好きなのが"Fall on your knees"のところ。この曲は１９世紀フランスの詩をもとに作られたクリスマスキャロルなので、今回はやや固めの文語体で翻訳してみました。残念ながらその方面の知識があまりないので正しい文語体であるかについては自信がありませんが、そうであることを願います。
さまざまな人が歌っている曲ですが、私はなかでもこの２つが気に入っています。特に二番目のニック・ピテラのカヴァー。最初に聴いた時は感動しました。クリスマスといえばお約束のサンタクロースですが英語ではSt. Nickとよく略されています。彼の名前も同じ。きっと素晴らしいクリスマスプレゼントになると思います。
The Christmas season is generally considered to commence on the next day of Thanksgiving in the US.  So here is "O Holy Night".  
It has certainly been one of my favorites but I didn't know the song title for quite a long time.  I love "Fall on your knees" part most.  Since it's a Christmas Carol composed by in 1847, by Adolphe Adam to a French poem by Placide Cappeau (1808 - 1877) (Wikipedia), I tried to translate it into rather formal and classical Japanese this time.  Unfortunately, not knowing much about the classical one, I'm not sure if my translation is grammatically correct.  I hope so.  
Among all covers, these two are my favorites.  Especially, the second one, a cover by Nick Pitera.  I got shivers when I first listened to it.  Besides, his first name is Nick.  I'm sure St. Nick will give you a big present.
