（幸か不幸か今まで一度たりとも有名になったことがないので）こんな人間にお目にかかったこともなく，こんなことはマンガやドラマや映画の中でしか起こらないと思っていただけに，大変興味を引かれました。なにしろこの「知り合い」，彼がKiss Me Quickを出してソロで売れた途端に，またメッセージを送ってきたそうです。
タイトルに騙されました。最初これはミダス王の24 K Magicと同じ系列の華やかな生活を歌った曲であり，主人公は自分の冨と生活を自慢しているのだと思っていましたが違いました。歌詞で主人公は妻と過ごしたもう戻って来ない幸せな日々を懐かしく思い出しています。

First I thought it's about a glamorous life the narrator is leading, just like 24 K Magic by Bruno Mars, and the narrator is boasting his wealth and the beauty of his life. That's not true. 「a touch of 」は「少しの」という意味ですが，歌詞の内容から考えていわゆる「タッチ」をかけていることは間違いありません。同じく「love」も精神的なloveなのかそうではないloveなのかを考えれば，おそらく後者であると思われますが，だからといって前者の可能性を完全に否定することもできません。
とにかく，この「love」という単語（およびその派生語）ほど，和訳する上で手強い言葉を思いつきません。かのナポレオンは，ギザのピラミッドの前で「不可能という言葉はフランス語にはない。または 不可能という言葉はフランス的ではない (Impossible n'est pas français.」と言ったそうですが，私も彼に倣って私の辞書から「love」という言葉を削除してしまいたい気持ちです。

実はこの曲の歌詞に関して，注目したい箇所が2つあります。そのひとつがプリ・コーラスの「何度も何度も繰り返し (Had it repeating, had it repeating)」という部分ですが，その後のプリ・コーラスでは「Got it repeating, got it repeating」と少し歌詞が変わっています。
特に第2連の「お前の姿を見かけたような，そんな気がする時がある，絶対いそうもないところ，地下鉄のあの駅にいる時に，道行く人に紛れてる (Sometimes I think that I see your, Face in the strangest of places, Down on the underground station, Passing by)，そして「そんな時，何故か俺は怖くなるんだ，きっとそんなの辛すぎるってそんな風に思うから，だってそこで実際に，相手に出会ってしまったら，はっきりわかってしまうだろ？あの頃の2人の姿はもうなくて，ただの他人になってることが，お前だって俺だって (Sometimes I think that I see your, Face in the strangest of places, Down on the underground station, Passing by, I get a mad sense of danger, Feel like my heart couldn't take it, Cause if we met we'd be strangers, You and I)」を読んだ時の気持ちを何と言えばいいのか。
