特にSkyscraperとこのBroken Stringsについては、最初の部分が全く同じといっていいほどですが、これ自体はさほど珍しいことではありません。CAmFGのコード進行をしている曲が非常に多いからです。耳に心地よいためポップスで広く使われています。このコード進行が生理学的に見て人間にどんな影響を及ぼすのかはわかりませんが、モーツァルト効果なるものが存在するらしいということは聞いています。元々ブルターニュ地方の僧が発見したそうで、乳牛にモーツァルトを聞かせると乳の出が良くなるんだとか。このコード進行も人間の心身に同じような効果を及ぼすのかも。乳は普通出ませんけどね。
On start listening to the song, I instantly recognized the tune and cried, "I know it!". Actually I didn't but I thought I did because it sounded the same as "Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato. (The second video below). Furthermore, the hook reminds me of Adele's Turning Tables. (Considering the fact that this song came first, I should say they sound like this.
Especially, Skyscraper and Broken Strings sounds almost identical in the first verse. It's not very rare, however, so many songs use the progression of chords, C, Am, F, G. It sounds very pleasant to human ears and therefore has been widely used in popular music. I don't know if the progression has some physiological effect on our mind and body but I heard of "The Mozart Effect". It was "originally discovered by monks in Brittany and said to increase cows' milk production. The progression might have a similar effect on our mind and body. We usually don't milk, though.
