おそらく傷ついているであろう主人公にこのたとえはどうかと思わないでもありませんが，相手の気持ちとしては，釣りで目当ての魚に当たりがなくいわゆる「外道」と呼ばれる魚が一匹かかっただけという感じなのではないでしょうか？
