Who Am I ケイティ・B (Katy B ft. Craig David)

Wikipediaは「記憶喪失 (amnesia)」を以下のように定めています。「記憶喪失または記憶喪失症候群とは，脳損傷，疾病あるいは精神的外傷によって引き起こされる記憶の欠損である。」
タイトルで「自分は誰？(Who am I)」と尋ねているところをみると，恋愛映画やドラマによく登場する人物のように，この曲の主人公2人もこれにかかっているのかもしれません。
Wikipedia defines 'amnesia' as follows:  "Amnesia, also known as amnesic syndrome, is a deficit in memory caused by brain damage, disease, or psychological trauma."
With the song title, "Who Am I",  the two narrators of this song might suffer from the syndrome, like those who often appear in some romance.

（余談）

タイトルのWho Am I?は直訳すれば「私は誰？」ですが，これをそのまま使ってしまうと「記憶喪失か，お前は」とツッコミのひとつも入れたくなってしまうのでここでは敢えて「（一緒にいるのが自然なことで，だからそうできないと）本当の自分じゃない気がするよ」としました。

また歌詞に登場するlovingですが，ご家庭向けの訳語からそうでないものまで，あまりに意味が広すぎてどの訳語を選ぶべきか悩みました。個人的には「そうでないもの」の方が相応しいように思われるのですが，ここでは敢えてそれとは別のものを選択いたしました。

それはともかく，この曲でフィーチャーされているCraig Davidについては，以前ここでInsomniaを取り上げました。歌詞を見ればその可能性は非常に低いとはいえ，仮に今回の曲の内容がリードで述べたようにAmnesiaであり，韻を踏んでいるとすれば，次はミクロネシア (micronesia)かポリネシア (polynesia)，あるいは インドネシア(Indonesia)辺りが順当なところであるように思います。

言葉の定義とういものは常に同じとは限らず，人によって違うものです。「love」という言葉からみなさんが予想するものはおそらく私が予想するものと同じではないでしょう。

The narrator repeats, "I know you" but in what way?  Does they mean "I know you are such a terrible person"?  Or "I know you're not such a terrible person"?  Well, coupled with an uplifting music, I think the latter is true.

表舞台から去ってしばらく経つアーティストがこのようなカムバックをすることはあまりないと思います。Craig Davidは2016年の8月に6年ぶりに4枚目のアルバムをリリースしました。インタヴューで，「若いヤツらが（自分の曲に）飛び付いた。彼らは，Craig Davidっていう新人を知ってる？って感じで自分のことを『発見』してた」と語っていました。

明日はヴァレンタインデーなのでウェディング向きの曲を取り上げました。実際，この曲を使った結婚式のヴィデオがYouTubeで見られます。
この曲を歌っているCraig Davidは，彼がアルバムThe Story Goesをリリースした2005年当時，間違いなく将来を約束された一人でした。恵まれたルックスと声（歌唱力も含めて）。全てが揃っていたと思います。最近，あまり評価されていないのが残念で仕方ありません。この曲を含め，当時の彼のヒット曲が懐かしい。あのJustin Bieberも彼のファンなんですよ。頑張れ！Craig David.

Tomorrow is St. Valentine's Day.  This makes a perfect wedding song.  Actually, you can watch some wedding videos with it on YouTube.
I think Craig David was definitely one of the brightest stars when he released his album "The Story Goes" in 2005.  He had everything.  Great looks and amazing voice.  It's a shame that he doesn't get the credit he deserves these days.  I miss his old hits like this.  Justin Bieber was (I hope he still is) a big fan of him.  God bless you, Craig David.

単に私が音楽に詳しくないことが原因なのかもしれませんが，彼の声とEllie Gouldingの声だけはどこで聞いても何故か即座に認識できます。

どこかで聴いた気が・・・。Craig DavidのInsomniaと同じに聞こえるのは私だけでしょうか？しかもタイトルも似てます。Euphoria（多幸感）とInsomnia（不眠症）で韻まで踏んでます。歌詞の内容については語ることはほとんどありません。お互いに夢中で相手のことしか目に入らないカップルについて，一体何が言えましょう（反語）。歌詞の内容を味わうというタイプの曲ではありません。踊るための曲です。この手の曲，通常は取り上げないのですが，Insomniaとの共通点を挙げたかったので。是非皆様でご確認ください。
This sounds familiar to me.  Am I the only one who thinks it sounds like Craig David's "Insomnia"?  Euphoria and insomnia, they even rhyme.  There's nothing much to say about the lyrics.  What can I say about two people loving each other so much that they can see nothing but themselves?  This is not the type of music we appreciate what the song tells.   It's the music for dance.  Usually I don't pick up songs like this but this time I do.  I want to show the similarity between the two, Insomnia and this.  Check up both to see if I'm right or wrong.

自分で投稿しておいてこう言うのも憚られますが，どうしてこういうダンスミュージックというのは大抵もれなくエロいんでしょうか。それさえなければもっと取り上げてもいいと思うのですが，本当にもう困惑するくらいそればっかりで。
誤解しないでいただきたいのですが，決してそれが嫌いだと言っている訳ではありません。むしろその逆ですが，どうせやるならGeek In The PinkとかButterflyくらいのレベルまでもっていってもらいたい。あそこまで行くと，なんというかもう潔さが感じられて，逆に清々しいのですが，中途半端だと妙に恥ずかしい。
それはともかく，この曲，Eurovision Song Contest 2012で大会史上2番目の得点を獲得して選ばれた曲だそうです。歌っているLoreenはスウェーデンの歌手とか。

LoreenのEuphoriaの余談で，「どうしてこういうダンスミュージックというのは大抵もれなくエロいんでしょうか」と書いたところ，それに応えてある方が「Craig Davidはまだ普通くらいですよ」とコメントをくださいました。確かに仰る通りです。そこで今回はそれを実証したいと思います。
ところで主人公は元恋人との別れで不眠症になったと訴えています。しかし深刻そうな響きとは裏腹に，不眠症で人間が死ぬことは決してありません。病気ですらありませんし，生きるか死ぬかといったこともありません。ただ，イライラしたり，疲れやすくなったり，ひどく落ち込んだりするようになるだけです。そしてこの点が最も重要なのですが，大抵の不眠症は睡眠薬などの薬で治療できます。だとすれば，必死になって恋人とよりをもどそうとするよりも，彼は医者にかかったほうが正解だと思いますけどね。
In the postscript of my blog post of "Euphoria" (Loreen), I said in my opinion, most of today's dance music are too sexy.  In response to it, a person sent a comment, saying Craig David's music isn't that sexy.  True.  So I demonstrate it here.
The protagonist in the lyrics claims himself to be insomniac due to a breakup with his ex. girlfriend.  Serious it may sound, however, insomnia doesn't and won't kill a person.  It's not an illness and is in no way life-threatening.  It can be very distressing, frustrating, exhausting, depressing.  Most importantly, most of insomnia is curable with medication, like a sleeping pill.  Maybe he should go see a doctor before desperately asking her to come back.

Seven Days クレイグ・デイヴィッド (Craig David)

Craig Davidを知らずに，先日取り上げた彼のInsomniaのヴィデオを見た人は，このヴィデオを見て驚くはず。.もしかしたら同一人物とわからないかもしれません。見た目が激変してしまったからです。美しくまったくブレることのない彼の声は相変わらず健在ですが，この５・６年で何かが決定的に変わってしまったような気がします。彼に一体何が起こったんでしょうか。このヴィデオの中の，あごひげのある彼が懐かしくて仕方ありません。
Those who don't know Craig David would be surprised to see this music video after watching that of his "Insomnia."  I'm not sure they would recognize him.  He's changed a lot, I mean physically.  His beautiful and pitch-perfect voice has stayed the same but something seems to have changed completely in these 5 or 6 years.  What happened to him?.  I really miss him with beard appearing in this video.

この手の中途半端にロマンティックな曲は余談を書くのに困ります。極度にロマンティックな曲，極度にエロい曲，極度に真面目な曲は，極度に「深い」曲，極度に「浅い」曲などは，それなりにキャラが立っているので比較的容易に余談が展開できるのですが，こういう無難な普通の曲は本当に困ります。

これが人間だと関西辺りでは「面白ない（おもんない）ヤツ」と言われてしまうのかもしれません。

そう言えば，お笑い系の某有名芸能プロダクションと苗字が一緒の人がいて，出身は関西近県ではなかったものの，たまたま勤め先が大阪の会社だったという人がいました。

困ったのは，関東への出張の時。「大阪から来た」という冠がその名前についてしまったがために，行く先々でネタの披露を期待され，大変プレッシャーを感じたそうです。

* too bitter for worse　・・・　アーティストのElla Mai自身の解説によると，結婚式の誓いの言葉「どんなことがあろうとも末永く (for better for worse)」にかけた言葉だそうです。

（余談）

bridgeに出てくる「drip」という単語は和訳に非常に苦労しました。というのもこの単語，学校で習う意味は「滴り落ちる」「滴」ですが，当然のことながらそれ以外にも様々な意味があり，果たしてElla Maiがどの意味で使っているのかがなかなか掴めませんでした。

最終的には，本人のコメントやUrban Dictionaryのエントリを参考にして，日本語の「水も滴る〇〇」のような語感に近いものとして「あんまりステキ過ぎるから」と和訳しました。
