Miley Cyrusのファンですが，それだけに彼女が個人としてこういうワイルドな生き方を選んでいるのを見るとやや不安になります。「自由」というと素晴らしく聞こえますが常に代償がつきまとうからです。

この展開は予想していませんでしたね。下のヴィデオを見て，最初はひどいケンカの後で主人公が女性を捨てて出て行ったのだと思いました。確かにある意味そうとも言えるのですが少し違います。ヴィデオを見て多少ショックを受ける方もあるかもしれません。

周囲から見ればどこが問題かわからないことで悩んでいる人も対応に困りますが，周囲から見て明らかに問題なのに当人は全く問題にしていない人もそれはそれで大変対応に困ります。

そうですよね，こうでなければいけません。長きにわたってジェンダーの平等を議論してきたわけですが，このヴィデオほどそのことをはっきりと見せてくれているものはありません。個人的にはまさにこれで「目を啓かれた」感じです。

（余談）

この曲を聞き，このミュージック・ヴィデを見ながら，ジェンダー問題の根底にはおそらく無意識のバイアスがいくつもあるのではないかと思い当たりました。個人的に言えば：

①アーティストの容姿を見て男性と判断した（実際はどうなのかわかりません）
②タイトルを見て「Heather」は恋人（あるいは元の恋人）あるいは好きな人の名前だと思った
③「Heather」が女性だと思った（一般的に女性の名前なので）
④ミュージック・ヴィデオの作りを見て　→　「若い」女性アーティストのミュージック・ヴィデオの作り方だと思った

といった点で，これ以外にも細かく探していけば数えきれないほど「バイアス」が見つかると思われます。

勿論「バイアス」の別名は「文化」なのでそれを完全になくすことはできませんが，それでもそれらが絶対的な真理ではなく，あくまでも文化的な枠組みに過ぎないということは常に意識しておいた方がよいように思われます。

この世は公平でも完璧でもありません。残念ながらそれが真実です。もし完璧だと思っているのなら気づかないくらい恵まれているのです。人間にとってはこの世は完璧だと思う方がそうでないと受け入れるよりはるかに簡単です。

人間は自分の視座（パースペクティヴ）からしか世界を認知できません。たとえどれほど本を読もうが世界を旅行しようがそこは変わりません。入ってくる情報を処理するのは他ならぬ我々自身の「脳」であり，その脳がそれまでの人生を通じてそこに蓄積された価値基準に従って判断しているからです。

歌詞に登場する「幸せになりたいのなら，相手のことを思いやり，いいことをしてやれよ」の下りはまさにその通りですが，突き詰めて言えばその「相手のことを思いや」って行うその判断自体もそれまでに蓄積された価値基準で判断しており，それゆえに「聖戦」などというものがこの世に存在します。

だとすれば，この世に絶対的な正義や平等など存在しないと認識することこそがあらゆる紛争解決への第一歩かもしれません。

厳密に言えば「生死に関わらず (dead or alive)」求められているのは主人公のようなカウボーイではなく，むしろ「逃亡者 (fugitives)」か「犯罪者 (criminals)」の方ではないでしょうか？

・・・まあファンのハートを「盗む」わけですからある意味犯罪者かもしれませんが，そうは言ってもファンの方はファンの方で盗まれたとは思っておらず，むしろ「捧げた」と思っていることが大半でしょうから，やはり窃盗罪は成立しないような気がします。

そもそもその「守るべきもの」自体，乱暴に言ってしまえば過去の人間が勝手に考え出したものに過ぎません。もともとは地面の上に国境線など引かれていませんし，経典も人間が書いたものです。言語も絶え間なく変遷していますし，地域や時代によって何が「善」で何が「悪」であるかさえ変わってしまいます。

Wikipediaによると，オアシスの水は地下を流れる川（帯水層）から来ているそうで，それなら特に何もせずに放っておいてもよいかと言うとそういうわけでもなく，継続的な管理とメンテナンスが必要なようです。

ありますよね？最初は別になんとも思っていなかったのに，周囲がそれを評価しはじめるとそれが急に輝いて見えるということが。

それがリードで述べた「勝者の呪い (Winner's curse)」という現象です。それまではタダで処分してもいいと思っていたのに「売ってくれ」と言われると売るのが急に惜しくなり「もうちょっと寝かしとくか」と考えてしまう。

この主人公もおそらく同じで，相手が別の相手を見つけていなければさっさと別れていたと思われるのに，自分以外の相手がもう出来た（＝つまり相手にそれだけの値打ちがあった）ことで「逃した魚は大きいかも」と考えてしまい悩んでいるのではないでしょうか。

ただし，この現象にはそれと対になる「購入者の後悔 (Buyer's remorse)」というものも存在します。家や不動産，車などの高い買い物をした後で後悔することを言いますが，そう考えると人間というものはおよそ不安からは逃れられない運命にあるようです。
